About
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is seeking an Accountant (Administrator I) within the Office of Finance at BWI Marshall Airport, located in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all collection activities, including investigating discrepancies and resolving outstanding issues by issuing customer refunds for over payments.
- Conduct follow‑up inquiries, negotiate with customers on past‑due accounts, maintain accurate records of cash receipts, and refer delinquent accounts to the Maryland Central Collection Unit for further collection actions.
- Manage incoming payments for the MAA, deposit funds, and record accurate journal entries in FMIS, MSTARS, and BRASS systems.
- Conduct daily comparisons, monitor, and reconcile deposit source documents (ACH and federal wires), journal entries, and related transactions by reviewing DAFR reports to identify discrepancies and ensure alignment between FMIS and MSTARS.
- Generate monthly recurring and ad hoc invoices and serve as backup for preparing landing and concession invoices.
- Distribute invoices to customers daily and process credit memos as needed.
- Reconcile Minimum Annual Guarantee (MAG) payments by comparing customer‑reported and remitted amounts to independent CPA reports.
- Prepare customer revenue reports and perform detailed reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in the month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work, including at least one year of experience performing accounts receivable, collections, and financial reconciliation work, investigating discrepancies, processing payments, reconciling financial transactions, and generating invoices using FMIS or related systems.

Substitution Guidelines
- Candidate may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
- Candidate may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Candidate may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidate may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, or overseeing/ coordinating unit operations, or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher‑ranking commissioned officer on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Licenses & Certifications
- Employees may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
