Accounting Analyst

Role and Responsibilities:

As an Accounting Analyst, you will support a variety of finance and accounting functions across WM's Area Finance/Accounting teams and Corporate Finance departments. This role involves executing financial tasks, providing analytical support, and contributing to financial reporting accuracy.

• Execute moderately complex financial tasks accurately and on time, following abstract project guidelines.
• Perform month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries of varying complexity.
• Analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliations with documented conclusions.
• Analyze monthly financial results and provide meaningful insights based on trend analysis.
• Collect and analyze financial data; prepare combined monthly financial statements and reports.
• Coordinate and review monthly financial package preparation for accuracy.
• Assist in evaluating and documenting accounting implications of potential transactions.
• Participate in monthly financial review meetings.
• Provide guidance to Finance personnel on internal and external financial procedures.
• Assist in maintaining and executing internal controls responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma or GED (accredited) with four years of relevant work experience.
• Three (3) years of relevant work experience required in addition to educational requirements.
• General understanding of US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and SEC regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong business acumen.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.
• Must be in the Houston area (no relocation available).
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in both Big 4/Public Accounting and Industry roles.
