We are partnering with a well-established, mission-driven government contractor to identify a hands-on Accounting Manager / GL Leader to join their growing finance team. This organization has a strong reputation supporting federal clients across multiple service lines and offers the stability of a large company with a collaborative, team-oriented culture.
This is a high-impact leadership role focused on owning the general ledger, leading the close process, and driving process improvements in a complex GovCon environment.
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will lead full-cycle general ledger operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, audit support, and compliance. This individual will manage a small team while remaining hands-on in day-to-day accounting activities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being closely involved in the details, improving processes, and taking full ownership of the close in a government contracting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Oversee general ledger and balance sheet management
- Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and GAAP
- Manage audits (DCAA, external auditors, IRS, and other agencies)
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls
- Oversee cost pools, indirect rates, and allocations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and indirect rate development
- Collaborate cross-functionally with AP, AR, Payroll, and Project teams
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience within government contracting
- Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and GAAP
- Experience with cost pools and indirect rate structures
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- CPA or CMA
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion or Lawson
Compensation & Schedule
- Salary range: $130,000 – $140,000 (bonus eligible)
- Hybrid schedule: 1–2 days onsite (more during initial onboarding/training)
