A mission driven organization in Baltimore County is seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to take ownership of grants management and core accounting operations. This Accounting Specialist will play a critical role in bringing structure, clarity, and follow through to a high volume grants environment while partnering closely with leadership and program teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a strong Accountant who wants to get into the non profit world or a knowledgeable Grant Accountant with previous experience working in non profits.

What This Accounting Specialist Will Do
- Take primary ownership of grants management, including monitoring grant expenses, preparing and submitting grant expense and reimbursement reports, and ensuring deadlines are met
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries and ensure accurate tracking of money in vs. money out
- Reconcile bank statements, grant accounts, and inter department activity
- Track expenses and revenue across multiple programs and ensure transactions are properly aligned to grants
- Prepare financial and budget to actual reporting in order for Program Directors clearly understand year to date budget status
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual grant reports and fund requests
- Work across departments to consolidate financial information and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain strong documentation and internal controls to ensure grant compliance
- Assist with accounts payable, deposits, and other accounting functions as needed
- Support and participate in an accounting software conversion as needed
What We're Looking For in an Accounting Specialist
- Strong foundation in accounting fundamentals including debits, credits, GL activity, and reconciliations
- Grants management experience preferred, but open to candidates with strong accounting experience, learning agility, and resourcefulness
- Experience using various accounting systems preferred. Knowledge of Abila MIP a plus!
- Great attention to detail, collaborative, and reliable
Schedule & Compensation
- Monday-Friday (every other Friday off) | 35 hour work week | 7 hour workday
- Hybrid flexibility available after 90 days
- Salary: $60,000-$70,000
