About the role

Summary

We are seeking an Accounting Technician to join our vibrant team. The incumbent performs all of the accounting and bookkeeping functions for the Midshipmen Welfare Fund, ensuring overall accuracy of MWF ledger balance and associated reports to eliminate duplication of effort, increase financial transparency, resulting in better adherence to financial recording and reporting requirements.

Duties

  • Maintains the QuickBooks accounting system, with a large number of accounts, to create journal entries, enter checks, enter deposits, and reconcile bank and purchase card.
  • Works with NAF contracting team in support of MWF contractual obligations.
  • Serves as an Ordering Officer performing government purchase card holder duties to include reconciling monthly statements in compliance with audit and GAAP regulations.
  • Prepares travel orders and vouchers.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for the MWF Manager.
  • Briefs Midshipmen Supply Officers of MWF processes.
  • Conducts ledger checks with Midshipmen Officers.
  • Performs administrative duties to include filing, and preparing PowerPoint briefs.
  • Tracks accounts receivables and accounts payables.
  • Assists the MWF Manager with recommending changes to forms and/or procedures.
  • Provides customer service to Midshipmen, Officers, Vendors, and USNA Faculty/Staff.
  • Prepares annual tax documents.
  • Physical demands of this position include walking, observing, and performing sedentary work in an office setting.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance – requires 18 years of age

Qualifications

In order to meet the basic requirement of the Accounting Technician position, NF-0525-03, you must meet the following requirement:

  • One (1) year of specialized experience in an accounting role that has equipped you to perform successfully the duties of this position. Specialized experience may include, but is not limited to: Performing clerical or administrative support functions, and accounting processes and functions such as budgeting, accounting and bookkeeping, auditing, taxes, contracting, financial management, journal entries, receiving and recording checks and deposits, completing purchase card transactions, and financial reporting.

YOU WILL BE RATED ON THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Experience and/or education in any of the following: Accounting, Bookkeeping, Corporate Purchase Card, Tax Compliance. A degree in accounting, business administration, or finance is preferred.
  • Experience with Google Suite, MS Office Suite, Accounting Software programs, with the technical capability to learn and understand systems used by USNA Midshipmen Welfare Fund. QuickBooks experience preferred.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting policies and standard operating procedures for accuracy and compliance.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational skills to maintain work with frequent interruptions.
  • Experience interpreting data and solving financial problems individually, and as part of a team.

Education

A degree in accounting, business administration, or finance is preferred.
