Position Overview

The AI Adoption & Partnerships Intern, Broader Public Sector will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience supporting the Vector Institute with adoption of AI in the Broader Public Sector (BPS), with a focus on creating processes and programs to create AI and ML capabilities within partner BPS organizations. Reporting to the Director, Partnerships, Broader Public Sector, you will provide design and delivery support and play a key role in ensuring the goals of the BPS team are met.

APPLIED INTERNSHIPS AT VECTOR

The applied internship program at Vector provides relevant, hands-on learning and work experience in machine learning and AI. During the paid internship, interns will have the opportunity to attend research, recruitment, and commercialization talks at Vector and connect with key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem. Applied internships may be full-time (36.25 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) over the Fall academic term (September 8 - December 18, 2026) with an opportunity to continue over the Winter 2027 academic term. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Consistent with Vector’s goals in this program to relieve disadvantages and alleviate the under-representation of Black and Indigenous people in AI, and to attempt to achieve equal opportunity in the field of AI, preference in hiring will be given to qualified Black and Indigenous persons, studying at or having recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institute, who self-identify as such in the application process. This initiative is designed to meet the criteria of a special program under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and implementation of tools and processes to facilitate the creation of AI capabilities within the BPS;
  • Assist in the development and management of BPS projects and programs, creating and updating project plans, schedules, status reports, and other project deliverables (e.g., business cases, executive roadmaps, etc.);
  • Assist in the development of metrics and frameworks for evaluating impacts of BPS AI projects and programs;
  • Support partnership building with BPS organizations and researchers;
  • Draft proposals on BPS-related projects;
  • Support project meeting coordination functions such as booking meetings with partners and stakeholders, preparing meeting materials (e.g., slides, briefing notes), taking minutes, tracking action items, and following up with meeting participants;
  • Support the creation of knowledge translation tools, including infographics, briefs, and training materials, to facilitate AI adoption;
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluation; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • You are a self-identified Black or Indigenous student or postdoctoral fellow (Indigenous ancestry or heritage – First Nations (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit) or a recent graduate.
  • You are enrolled in an AI-related graduate program at a Canadian university or college, or have recently completed such a program within 1 semester of graduation.
  • You have experience in project management (e.g., scoping, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluating, and closing) and using project management tools.
  • You are familiar with GSuite and/or MS Office 365 applications.
  • You are organized and efficient with strong problem-solving skills.
  • You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • You possess a positive attitude, integrity, a sense of humour, and bring a positive energy and outlook to a not-for-profit corporate culture.

COMPENSATION

$25/hour.
