AI Builder (Staff Engineer)
HouseSigma
About the role
AI builder (Staff Engineer) — Remote (Canada)
HouseSigma — the highest-rated real estate app in Canada — is looking for an AI-native builder with staff-level engineering depth to help reinvent how real estate technology works in an AI-native world. We’re looking for someone who sees broken systems, unclear workflows, or high‑friction user problems and wants to rebuild them — using strong engineering judgment and AI as a force multiplier. This is a full‑time, permanent role with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
About the role
We're building a team of AI-native builders who embody our North Star Behaviour: Solve problems deeply with ownership, and collaborate to multiply impact. In this role, you’ll stay deeply hands‑on while owning technical problems end‑to‑end — from understanding the real need, to shaping the architecture, to shipping and improving the system in production. You’ll work across engineering, product, data, and AI/ML, and you’ll be expected to raise the bar through technical depth, speed, ownership, and the ability to move beyond a narrow engineering lane when the problem requires it. As an AI Builder, you'll work directly with leadership to identify high‑impact problems, prototype solutions rapidly, and ship systems that serve millions of users. You'll have significant autonomy and direct impact on the product roadmap.
What You'll Do
- Own problems end‑to‑end — from understanding the root cause to shipping a working solution, whether that's a product feature, a compliance process, a financial model, or an internal tool
- Build AI‑native workflows — design and implement systems where AI is a core part of how things work, not bolted on after the fact
- Move fast from idea to reality — go from insight to working output in days, not weeks. Use AI tools to accelerate every step
- Work with HouseSigma's proprietary data and intelligence — leverage unique datasets and insights to create value for users, buyers, sellers or internal teams
- Challenge and improve processes — if something is slow, manual, or outdated, redesign it. We expect you to question how things are done, regardless of your title
- Comfort working across boundaries — you may be rooted in engineering, but you can engage meaningfully with product definition, data interpretation, workflow design, and business context.
What We're Looking For
We care about what you can build, not where you went to school or what's on your resume.
Mindset
- Builder mentality: you see a problem and immediately start thinking about how to solve it — and then you actually do
- AI‑native thinking: you reflexively use AI to expand what's possible. You've already changed how you work because of AI tools
- Ownership: you don't wait to be told what to do. You identify the highest‑leverage problem and drive it forward
- Comfort with ambiguity: you can make good decisions with incomplete information and course‑correct as you learn
- Speed with judgment: you move fast but know when to slow down — especially around data accuracy, user trust, and AI responsibility boundaries
Skills
- A strong track record of shipping real systems — you’ve taken important work from ambiguous problem to production outcome, and you know what it means to own reliability, tradeoffs, and long‑term consequences.
- AI fluency — you actively use AI tools to expand what you can do. You've already changed how you work because of LLMs, and you can articulate where AI adds value vs where human judgment is essential
- Systems thinking — you understand how the pieces fit together. You can see upstream causes and downstream effects, and design solutions that work across boundaries — not just within your silo
- Data comfort — you can work with data to support decisions, whether that means SQL queries, spreadsheet analysis, building dashboards, or interpreting metrics. You don't need to be a data scientist, but you're not afraid of numbers
- Communication clarity — you can explain complex decisions to people outside your domain. You write clearly, present concisely, and know how to bring others along
- Production discipline — you build with testing, deployment, observability, and iteration in mind. You don’t just make things work; you make them operable, understandable, and safe to evolve.
Nice to Have
- Experience in real estate, proptech, or marketplace platforms
- Background in building or automating workflows that previously required a full team
- Experience with AI/LLM tools beyond basic chat — prompt engineering, RAG, automation pipelines, or AI‑powered products
- Track record of working across domain boundaries
- Comfort with technical tools — whether that's code, no‑code platforms, APIs, or data pipelines. You don't need to be an engineer, but you're not limited by technology

You’ll join a collaborative, globally distributed engineering org
