This is not a remote working position and standard working hours from the office in Sandton, Johannesburg will apply. Office days are rotational.

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a creative thinking AI Engineer to join a dynamic team based in Sandton. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining advanced AI Systems to support the company’s strategic objectives across voice and digital customer interaction channels. This includes the creation of production-grade AI voice bots, text bots, AI driven Quality Assurance (QA) systems for call audits and bespoke NLP/NLU systems for underrepresented African languages. The ideal AI Engineer will have hands-on expertise with a passion for innovation and customer impact through Generative AI, LLM’s, NLP, Speech Technologies and Responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Experience in AI, Generative AI, Machine Learning, NLP or a related field
• Strong practical experience with AI voice and text bots
• Hands-on experience building AI chatbots using LLMs or conversational AI frameworks
• Proven experience designing Speech-to-Text (STT), Text-to-Speech (TTS), and QA analysis tools
• Experience working on language technologies for low-resource or African languages is highly advantageous
• Prior exposure to AI deployment in BPO/contact center environments is a plus
• Proven experience with Generative AI, NLP, Voicebots, TTS, STT, LLMs, and API integration

Requirements

• Completed Matric – essential
• Completed Honours Degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Linguistics or related fields
• Masters Degree – Preferred
• Certifications in AI/ML platforms (Aure – advantageous)
• 5+ years in a similar role
• Applicants must be South African with a valid South African ID

Package & Remuneration

The Package: We’re looking for a tech-savvy professional curios about new technologies and aspiring to deliver technology that is essential to any business. The pay range on offer is R50 000.00 to R75 000.00 CtC Package Per Month, based on skills, tech stack and qualifications.
