AI Engineer (Claude Code | Legacy Modernisation | Java Microservices)

This is not a standard AI/GenAI role.

My client is looking for engineers who can break down legacy systems and rebuild them properly, using Claude Code (not GPT/prompting tools) to drive real engineering outcomes.

You’ll be working on large-scale policy administration modernisation, extracting business logic from legacy platforms and transforming it into scalable Java microservices architecture.

What you must bring:

• Hands-on Claude Code experience (agentic workflows, multi-file refactoring, test execution, Git ops)
• Proven reverse engineering → forward engineering experience (code → requirements → rebuild)
• Strong Java + Spring Boot microservices (REST APIs, distributed systems, scalable design)
• Experience working with legacy modernisation / transformation programmes
• CI/CD, Kubernetes, and production-grade engineering environments
• Ability to produce PRDs / user stories from codebases (Jira, documentation etc.)

Highly desirable:

• Insurance domain knowledge (P&C / Policy Administration systems)
• Experience building portals for agents / underwriters
• Exposure to policy rules, underwriting logic, rating engines

Not the right fit if:

• You’ve only used GPT / prompt engineering tools
• No hands-on legacy transformation experience
• Limited exposure to enterprise-scale Java microservices
