AI Engineer / Technical Development Lead

Unison Systems is seeking an AI Engineer / Technical Development Lead to join our client's team in Denver Tech Center (DTC).

This is a contract-to-hire position, onsite 4 days per week. H1 visa sponsorship will be considered. This is a senior-level role offering competitive compensation for a leader who will architect and deploy production AI systems while mentoring a team of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor AI/ML engineers while establishing technical strategy and best practices
• Architect, build, and deploy LLM- and ML-powered systems into production environments
• Develop and optimize RAG pipelines, evaluation strategies, and agentic workflows
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and Operations teams to deliver measurable business impact
• Conduct code reviews, lead technical design sessions, and create documentation to promote engineering excellence
• Build reliable, scalable, and responsible AI systems that meet enterprise-grade standards

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering or technical leadership experience
• 2+ years of hands-on LLM experience including fine-tuning, RAG, prompt engineering, and agentic workflows
• 5+ years of ML/Data Science background with proven production deployments
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, build high-performing teams, and lead architectural decisions
• Strong communication skills and ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Deep expertise in Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Production experience with MLOps tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Vertex AI, or SageMaker
• Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with data pipeline tools (Airflow, Prefect, Spark, Ray) and vector stores
• Familiarity with cloud architecture, API design, and microservices patterns
