AI HPC Engineer (Core Hardware / Systems – Professional Services)

Overview

We’re supporting a professional services organisation delivering AI and HPC infrastructure solutions for enterprise and research customers. The role sits within a core delivery engineering team, working hands‑on with Dell‑based AI/HPC platforms across customer environments.

This is a systems and hardware‑focused role, involved in design, build, validation, and delivery of high‑performance infrastructure rather than ongoing GPU cluster operations or ML workflows. The engineer will work closely with internal consultants and customer stakeholders, ensuring platforms are robust, performant, and production‑ready.

The role is remote‑first, with on‑site engagements in Germany around once per month, typically aligned to system builds, acceptance testing, or key delivery phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver AI and HPC infrastructure projects for customers using Dell enterprise compute platforms
• Hands‑on system build, configuration, and validation across compute, network, and storage
• Perform system bring‑up, BIOS/firmware configuration, OS tuning, and performance optimisation
• Troubleshoot complex, multi‑layer issues across hardware, firmware, Linux OS, networking, and storage
• Support customer environments during deployment, testing, and early production phases
• Work alongside solution architects and consultants to translate designs into working platforms
• Contribute to build standards, reference architectures, and delivery best practices
• Provide clear technical documentation and handover material for customer teams

Required Experience

• Strong experience as an HPC / AI infrastructure engineer in a delivery, integration, or professional services context
• Hands‑on experience with Dell server platforms (e.g. PowerEdge, HPC or AI‑optimised systems)
• Strong Linux knowledge at a system / infrastructure level
• Experience with:
  • High‑performance networking (Infiniband, RoCE, low‑latency Ethernet)
  • BIOS, firmware, lifecycle, and system‑level tuning
• Comfortable working directly with customers and representing engineering decisions
• Able to operate independently in a senior, delivery‑focused role

Nice to Have

• Experience delivering customer‑facing HPC or AI projects
• Exposure to Dell AI/HPC reference architectures
• Familiarity with schedulers (e.g. Slurm) from a systems perspective
• German language skills (useful, not required)
