About the role

About

Thales is a global leader in high‑technology, operating in three sectors: Defence & Security, Aerospace & Space, and Cyber & Digital. The group invests nearly €4 billion each year in R&D, focusing on AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing, cloud technologies, and 6G. With about 81 000 employees in 68 countries, Thales delivers and supports systems for the management and protection of airspace. The site, located south of Paris, is easily reachable by public transport.

You will join the Design Studio team, which brings together expertise in strategy, service, process, product, UX, UI, and ergonomics. Projects involve ground‑ and air‑based systems, covering competitive benchmarking, research, needs analysis, and the delivery of operational solutions—from strategic framing to journey design and service or product conception. Initially based at the Massy site, you will later move to the Vélizy‑Villacoublay site.

Responsibilities

  • Detect user needs and conduct in‑depth studies to understand expectations and behaviours, guiding strategic decisions.
  • Design products and services aligned with the company’s strategic vision.
  • Define key design choices and product specifications (identify human‑factor constraints, data inventories, user stories, user flows, personas, etc.) and create mock‑ups and prototypes (3D modelling, rendering, …).
  • Evaluate the impact of user experiences to inform product development strategies (design, execution, analysis, and reporting of tests).
  • Contribute to the maturation and industrialisation of design within Thales, ensuring efficient and scalable implementation (knowledge capitalisation, templating deliverables, lessons‑learned).

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Design, Strategy, Innovation, UX, or Product/Service program, seeking a 2‑year apprenticeship as part of a BAC+5 curriculum.
  • Proficient in qualitative and quantitative research techniques (interviews, shadowing, surveys, usability testing, etc.) and data analysis to generate insights for strategy and decision‑making.
  • Understanding of the key stages of design thinking (problem definition, ideation, rapid prototyping, testing) to solve complex challenges innovatively.
  • Skilled in at least one prototyping method (sketching, design software, data visualisation, 3D, etc.) to visually represent concepts and aid decision‑making.
  • Knowledge of fundamental business strategy, economic models, product management, and innovation to align design solutions with commercial objectives and market opportunities.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies (AI, AR/VR, IoT) to anticipate and integrate relevant innovations.
  • Proficiency with visual design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) to create clear, compelling visualisations.
  • Ability to prepare and facilitate collaborative workshops, guiding discussions and presenting results to drive concrete actions.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and openness to learning new perspectives, technologies, and methods.
  • Adaptability to changing requirements, feedback, and evolving demands in dynamic environments.

Benefits

  • Access to Thales’ technological expertise.
  • Commitment to employee work‑life balance.
  • Inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Recognised societal and environmental engagement (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index).
