About

We are looking for a Staff Engineer – Android Automotive to join a team working on next-generation in-vehicle software solutions for a major OEM. This role requires a strong technical leader with deep expertise in Android Automotive OS, capable of driving architecture and development across both low-level vehicle integration and high-level user-facing applications. The position covers the full software stack, from VHAL and platform-level interfaces up to modern in-car UI development.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical roadmap for Android Automotive software architecture
  • Lead development across the full stack, from VHAL implementation and system-level integration to application and UI layers
  • Develop and integrate custom vehicle properties using VHAL, HIDL/AIDL, and related Android platform components
  • Design and implement in-car user-facing features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Ensure robust integration between Android framework components and vehicle ECUs, in close collaboration with hardware, firmware, and system teams
  • Support system performance, stability, and maintainability across the AAOS stack
  • Contribute to technical decisions related to architecture, scalability, and software quality
  • Define and promote best practices for development, testing, debugging, and CI/CD in an automotive environment
  • Mentor team members and support technical excellence across the project

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with AOSP and solid understanding of Android Automotive OS architecture
  • Proven hands-on experience with VHAL, HIDL/AIDL, and vehicle communication interfaces such as CAN or Ethernet
  • Strong Kotlin skills and good proficiency in C++ for system-level development
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern UI development principles
  • Good knowledge of Android development and debugging tools such as Android Studio, Soong, Make, Bazel, adb, logcat, and dumpsys
  • Solid understanding of embedded software integration in automotive environments
  • Ability to work across platform, middleware, and application layers

Nice to have

  • Experience with navigation stack integration such as Mapbox, Google Maps, or similar solutions within AAOS
  • Familiarity with voice assistant integration, including STT, NLU, or hands-free interaction use cases
  • Experience with boot time optimization and cold-start performance improvements
  • Previous experience in safety-critical automotive software environments
