About the role

Introduction

Exciting opportunity has become available for an Engineer who would like to grow within a developing company and expand their experience into the African market.

You will support the Lead Project Manager by converting sales leads into technically correct, commercially viable, quotable solutions, and by maintaining strong customer engagement from enquiry through to order.

Duties & Responsibilities

Enquiry-to-offer ownership

  • Receive sales leads and develop them into complete solution concepts.
  • Gather and confirm technical requirements, constraints, and scope.
  • Configure products/systems into an offer that meets the application need.
  • Prepare accurate quotations using tools, standards, and costing inputs.
  • Follow up technically to help convert quotations into orders.

Customer engagement and service

  • Act as day-to-day customer contact in support of the Lead Project Manager.
  • Explain customer problems and proposed solutions clearly and directly.
  • Compile and deliver technical proposals and presentations, including to senior customer management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Project Houses, OEMs, and end users.

Technical and site work (Africa travel)

  • Develop a working understanding of slurry process control plants and slurry applications.
  • Visit mine sites to assess installations, gather data, and identify opportunities.
  • Take accurate site measurements using verniers, measuring tapes, laser devices, and similar tools.
  • Convert site data into practical, optimised solutions.

Internal coordination

  • Coordinate between customers and internal teams (engineering, production, quality, sales).
  • Help manage expectations on production capacity, quality requirements, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate customer inspections with Production and Quality.
  • Ensure alignment between customer requirements and internal capability.

General / governance

  • Maintain understanding of technical requirements, quality standards, and commercial conditions for each enquiry.
  • Liaise with vendors and third parties when required.
  • Participate in internal issue-resolution discussions (technical, commercial, quality).
  • Escalate issues correctly.
  • Manage workload against priorities set by the Lead Project Manager and Internal Sales Manager.
  • Record time spent on projects and activities accurately.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications:

  • Diploma (preferred minimum) in a relevant engineering field (Mechanical / Process / Chemical / Industrial or similar).

Experience:

  • 2 years relevant experience in a technical environment, ideally involving one or more of:
    • applications / proposals / internal technical sales, or
    • project engineering support, or
    • site work with industrial equipment (installation, maintenance, troubleshooting) plus customer interaction.

General:

  • The role is designed as direct support to the Lead Project Manager. It reduces PM load by owning detailed enquiry-to-offer work while maintaining quality.
  • Travel is required. Candidate must be comfortable working on mine sites across Africa.

Technical:

  • Ability to translate a customer problem into a practical engineered solution.
  • Competence reading and interpreting drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Practical site capability: measuring, assessing plant layouts, and capturing correct field data.
  • Understanding of industrial equipment environments (valves, piping, samplers, or similar).
  • Ability to produce accurate technical proposals and quotations (scope clarity, assumptions, exclusions).

Commercial / proposal:

  • Costing and quotation discipline (accuracy, completeness, traceability of inputs).
  • Ability to package solutions into a clear offer (technical + commercial).

Communication:

  • Clear written and verbal communication with operators, engineers, and management.
  • Confident presentation of solutions to technical and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service and responsiveness.

Beneficial:

  • Exposure to CAD or technical drawing tools.
  • MS Excel competence for costing and quotations.
  • Basic sales / commercial training.
  • Slurry, mineral processing, metallurgy exposure.

Package & Remuneration

  • R40 000 - R50 000 CTC (negotiable depending on experience) + performance bonuses.
