Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Application Architect – eHealth to support the Provincial Health Application Services (PHAS) team within a large healthcare technology environment. This role is responsible for providing architectural leadership, technical direction, and strategic guidance for complex provincial healthcare applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

The successful candidate will work across both steady-state operations and project-based initiatives to enhance the stability, resilience, scalability, and integration capabilities of critical healthcare platforms. The role involves collaborating with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and healthcare partners to design and implement enterprise-grade solutions that support provincial healthcare delivery.

This position requires deep experience in healthcare application architecture, integration engines, EMPI technologies, enterprise databases, and large-scale healthcare information systems within Canadian healthcare environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, and develop strategies, models, and work plans to improve the stability, resilience, and fault tolerance of enterprise healthcare platforms
  • Provide architectural leadership and technical guidance related to solution design, development methodologies, and implementation strategies
  • Develop and maintain solution architecture and system configuration documentation
  • Design and implement healthcare integration solutions aligned with business and operational requirements
  • Develop implementation, migration, and integration strategies for healthcare platforms and applications
  • Support the evolution of eHealth platforms from current-state to future-state architecture
  • Collaborate with business teams, project managers, vendors, developers, database administrators, and support teams to ensure successful solution delivery
  • Provide support for development, testing, and production environments
  • Monitor, optimize, and maintain high availability and performance of healthcare platforms and integration environments
  • Support healthcare applications including EHRs, EMRs, clinical data repositories, registries, integration engines, and custom applications
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff, consultants, and development teams
  • Participate in troubleshooting, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and after-hours support activities as required
  • Prepare proof-of-concepts and technical recommendations for proposed solutions and architectures
  • Provide regular status updates and technical reporting to management
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical reviews, and documentation updates as required

Skills & Qualifications:

  • University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 20 years of IM/IT experience
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a Senior Programmer/Analyst or Application Architect
  • Extensive experience supporting Provincial Healthcare and Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications within Canadian healthcare environments
  • Strong experience designing, developing, testing, documenting, and implementing enterprise technical solutions
  • Deep expertise with Rhapsody Integration Engine and healthcare interoperability solutions
  • Experience with NextGate and/or Rhapsody Provider Index solutions
  • Strong experience with EMPI technologies including IBM Initiate and Infosphere
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases
  • Strong development experience with Java and JavaScript
  • Experience supporting healthcare integration platforms, registries, and clinical repositories
  • Knowledge of enterprise application architecture, system integration, and healthcare interoperability standards
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience working in complex, highly regulated healthcare or public sector environments
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to provide occasional after-hours and weekend support as required
