Application Developer – Backend (Lead)

We are working with a direct client in the financial services domain looking to onboard a Lead Backend Developer to support ongoing platform modernization initiatives. This role will be focused on building and enhancing high-volume, low-latency backend services as part of a microservices-based architecture.

The candidate will work closely with product owners, architects, and distributed engineering teams across the US.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend development for core platform services
• Design and implement microservices for high-traffic applications
• Contribute to system design discussions and architecture decisions
• Integrate backend services with internal and third-party systems
• Review code, guide developers, and enforce engineering standards
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system stability
• Collaborate with DevOps for deployment and release management

Required Skills

• 12+ years of backend development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience building microservices in a cloud environment
• Solid understanding of system design (scalability, performance, resilience)
• Experience developing RESTful APIs
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Hands-on with Git for version control
• Experience with build tools like Maven or Gradle
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kafka or event-driven architecture
• Containerization experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience working in financial services or regulated environments
• CI/CD pipeline exposure
