Application Engineer – Managed File Transfer (MFT / MOVEit)

About the Role:

Canada Life is seeking an experienced MOVEit Engineer to support and manage Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting secure file transfers between internal systems and external partners, with a strong emphasis on automation, security, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and provide ongoing support for Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions using MOVEit Automation and MOVEit Transfer.
• Configure and manage SFTP landing zones for secure file exchanges with internal teams and external partners.
• Support secure file transfers using SFTP, FTPS, and FTP protocols.
• Implement and manage SSH-based SFTP authentication, including SSH key pair creation and lifecycle management.
• Configure and support file encryption and decryption, primarily using PGP, ensuring secure data exchange.
• Establish and maintain secure server connections using SFTP servers such as VanDyke VShell.
• Configure VShell environments, including:
  • Server connections
  • Virtual routes
  • File system permissions
  • Access controls
• Develop and maintain automation workflows using conditional logic, including:
  • If–then–else conditions
  • For loops
  • Logical AND / OR conditions
• Troubleshoot end-to-end file transfer issues across multiple systems and environments.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support guides.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams to ensure secure and reliable file transfer operations.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• 6–8 years of experience in application server deployment, administration, and support.
• Strong understanding of Managed File Transfer (MFT) concepts and file movement workflows.
• Solid knowledge of SFTP, FTPS, and FTP protocols.
• Experience with SSH key-based authentication and secure access models.
• Working knowledge of PGP encryption, decryption, and key management.
• Familiarity with VanDyke VShell or similar secure file transfer servers.
• Strong understanding of file system security, permissions, and access control models.
• Comfortable working with automation logic, workflow orchestration, and scripting concepts.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience with MOVEit Automation and MOVEit Transfer (preferred).
• Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments.
• Exposure to security, compliance, or data protection standards.
• Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical file transfer platforms.
