Application Engineering Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Application Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for building custom applications and integrating them into a broader enterprise technology ecosystem.

This role combines people leadership with technical oversight and architectural direction. As the organization continues modernizing its technology stack and engineering practices, this individual will play a key role in strengthening software delivery standards, improving automation and CI/CD processes, and supporting the structured adoption of AI‑assisted development tools within the SDLC.

The successful candidate will ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise strategy and business objectives.

Location

• GTA‑based preferred (occasional onsite presence required – twice a month)

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software developers and business systems analysts.
• Architect and oversee delivery of custom‑built applications and enterprise integrations.
• Guide solution design, estimation, and prioritization across multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Conduct technical design reviews and code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture principles.
• Drive modernization of engineering practices including CI/CD, automation, documentation, and observability.
• Lead evaluation and structured adoption of AI‑assisted development tools within the software development lifecycle.
• Establish governance and usage guardrails around AI‑enabled development practices in collaboration with Security and Infrastructure teams.
• Manage vendor relationships to ensure delivery quality, budget alignment, and compliance with technical standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Security, and Infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Support technical debt reduction initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
• Provide senior‑level support for complex application issues and incident resolution.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
• 3–5+ years managing and leading engineering teams.
• Strong experience designing and overseeing cloud‑based application architectures (Azure preferred).
• Experience with modern development stacks (e.g., React, Node.js, JavaScript, Python).
• Hands‑on experience with API design, system integrations, and microservices patterns.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git‑based workflows, and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience driving engineering process improvements and operational maturity.
• Exposure to AI‑assisted development tools and interest in operationalizing modern development practices.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Experience managing third‑party vendors and delivery partners.

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating or enhancing Digital Experience Platforms.
• Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as CRM or HRIS systems.
• Experience working in regulated or mission‑driven environments.
