Position Overview

The Applications Engineering Manager serves as the primary technical authority supporting customer acquisition and program capture, leading all pre-sales technical engagements for KULR’s battery, BMS, and energy storage solutions. This role partners closely with Sales and Business Development to translate customer requirements into scalable, high-performance system architectures aligned with mission-critical applications. The position leads customer-facing technical discussions, supports RFIs/RFPs, and oversees the development of solution architectures, proposals, and trade studies. In addition to direct technical contribution, this role manages and mentors applications engineering resources, ensuring consistent, high-quality customer engagement and technical delivery. The Applications Engineering Manager also provides structured feedback to internal engineering and product teams to influence roadmap decisions and align solutions with evolving customer and market needs.

Functions

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers during pre-sales engagements, leading solution discussions and building technical credibility
  • Partner with Sales and Business Development to qualify opportunities, shape capture strategy, and support deal closure
  • Translate customer requirements into battery system, BMS, and thermal management solution architectures
  • Lead technical responses for RFIs, RFPs, and proposals, including compliance matrices, technical volumes, and solution justifications
  • Conduct design reviews, architecture trade studies, and technical presentations with customer engineering teams
  • Guide customer evaluations, demonstrations, and early prototype efforts to ensure successful solution adoption
  • Identify technical risks early in the sales cycle and coordinate mitigation strategies with internal engineering teams
  • Manage and mentor applications engineering staff, driving consistency in technical engagement, deliverables, and customer support quality
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience in sales engineering, field applications engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
  • Strong experience with battery systems, energy storage, or power electronics
  • Solid understanding of battery safety, thermal management, and system-level integration
  • Experience supporting defense, aerospace, space, or industrial customers
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively
  • Comfortable managing multiple active sales opportunities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with battery packs, BMS, or propulsion / energy systems
  • Familiarity with DoD, aerospace, or NASA acquisition and qualification environments
  • Experience supporting UAS, space systems, robotics, or autonomous platforms
  • Background working with manufacturing, NPI, or supply chain teams

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Advanced knowledge of battery systems and energy storage technologies, including lithium-ion chemistry, battery management systems (BMS), thermal management, and system-level integration
  • Strong technical acumen in electrical, mechanical, or electrochemical engineering principles, with the ability to architect complex, application-specific solutions
  • Proficiency in pre-sales engineering and capture processes, including supporting RFIs/RFPs, developing technical proposals, and aligning solutions to customer requirements
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, persuasive messaging for diverse audiences
  • Customer-facing and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust, influence decision-making, and navigate multi-stakeholder environments
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including conducting trade studies, evaluating technical risks, and developing practical mitigation strategies
  • Leadership and people management skills, with experience mentoring or managing engineering teams and driving accountability and performance
  • Cross-functional collaboration and business acumen, with the ability to work effectively across sales, engineering, product, and operations to support strategic objectives
