Applied AI Engineer

Our client, a global consumer electronics brand with offices in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, is looking to add to staff an experienced Applied AI Engineer starting ASAP. This role will be fully on-site, so candidates from the local Northern NJ market will be considered.

In this role, you will be responsible for building and deploying production-ready AI applications across multiple business units, including retail, manufacturing, and supply chain. You will work as part of a growing AI initiative team, leveraging off-the-shelf AI/ML models and modern software engineering practices to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions. The team is currently more engineering-focused, with limited data science resources, so a strong hands-on development background is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Build and deploy production LLM applications using modern backend frameworks (FastAPI, Spring Boot) and frontend technologies (React, Next.js) • Design and implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems using vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or OpenSearch • Develop reusable AI components including prompt engineering frameworks, orchestration pipelines, and response streaming • Create and maintain REST and/or GraphQL APIs for AI service integration across platforms • Deploy and manage containerized applications in AWS environments (ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway) • Evaluate AI tools and technologies, making strategic recommendations on build vs. buy decisions • Implement performance optimization techniques including caching, rate limiting, and LLM guardrails • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business teams across retail, manufacturing, and supply chain initiatives • Contribute to technical documentation, POCs, and scalable implementation strategies

QUALIFICATIONS: • 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong back-end development capabilities or data science (how models work and off the shelf options) background • Advanced proficiency in Python is a must and/or Java • Proven experience building and deploying production-grade LLM/RAG applications • Hands-on experience with frameworks such as ADK, LangChain or LlamaIndex • Strong understanding of API development, microservices architecture, and distributed systems • Experience working within AWS or Google cloud environments is a plus • Familiarity with AI-powered development tools and must know vibe coding (Cursor, Claude Max, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex) • General understanding of ecommerce, retail, manufacturing, or supply chain domains preferred • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
