Apprenti(e) Amélioration d’une interface de visualisation & analyse de données d’essais réseau pour turbine à combustion

GE Vernova

Belfort · On-site Internship Entry Level 1mo ago

About the role

Who are we?

GE Gas Power designs cleaner, more affordable energy to fuel growth and prosperity around the world. With our cutting-edge technologies, we generate one-third of the world's electricity thanks to our talented employees, continuous innovation, and ongoing partnerships with our customers. We are building the energy technologies of the future and delivering the cleaner, more efficient energy that people depend on today (diversity).

Who will you report to?

Through this internship, you will have the opportunity to join the gas turbine engineering organization, and more specifically the Grid Frequency Response team, which is responsible for the flexibility, robustness, and resilience of power plants. Our team is also responsible for making decarbonization solutions more flexible, such as the use of low-carbon fuels (hydrogen, biofuels) and carbon capture and sequestration.

Our main challenge is to meet the requirements of electrical grid codes by demonstrating the flexibility of gas turbines to support these grids in the event of a failure. This demonstration can be achieved through simulations based on complex models or through on-site tests designed to demonstrate compliance with the various required specifications.

Initial projects have resulted in the development of a Python interface connected to an SQL database, allowing the visualization and analysis of test data collected during previous grid test campaigns. The tool will be at the prototype stage, used by engineers at the start of their work-study program, and will notably provide data for the R&D, modeling, and preparation teams for future test campaigns.

What will your future responsibilities be?

Context

This new role is part of the ongoing development of the network test data visualization tool and aims to improve the tool by enriching the database with data and developing new test analysis functionalities, both those already identified and those yet to be identified, based on user feedback.

Proposed Missions

The proposed mission will be broken down into several main areas:

  • Learning to use the existing Python interface and structure, as well as the associated documentation (back-end program, hand-off document, guidelines, official reviews), and gathering user feedback and establishing specifications for improving the tool by including new features.
  • Extending the database and adapting the existing interface to identified needs (adding new test campaigns, new test categories, etc.) with support from the digital teams.
  • Developing new signal analysis features with support from the engineering teams as needed (typically automation, adding visual indicators, automatic report generation, comparison of simulations and tests, etc.).
  • Validating the interface with the senior engineering office and future users, following the internal engineering review process.
  • Presentation and deployment to local and global teams, and development of user manuals/tutorials.

As the mission builds upon ongoing work, it may be adjusted based on progress and the candidate's profile.

Interactions with international teams (gas turbine systems, control systems, digital systems, etc.) are expected.

Expected deliverables:

  • Specifications to gather new user requirements for the interface
  • Operational Python V2.0 interface (extended SQL database, automated analysis module, new features)
  • Validation of the interface with available test data
  • Complete documentation (specifications, technical guide, user guide)
  • Two formal technical reviews within GE Vernova's internal processes (scope review at the beginning and results review)

What will be the contributions of the internship for the student?

At the end of this experience, you will have acquired skills in:

  • Design and operation of power plants, energy transition of electrical transmission networks
  • Project management in a highly evolving environment
  • Collaboration in an international context (mainly in English)
  • Understanding of transient phenomena enabling the stability of electrical networks for large power turbine technologies.
  • Monitoring of quality development processes through reviews and validation.

What student are we looking for and with what experience?

  • Generalist engineer with a focus on thermal or electrical engineering, or data processing engineer with electrical or energy expertise.
  • Motivation to work in an international and multidisciplinary context.
  • First experience in Python programming (internship, project, etc.) and data processing required.
  • Fluent English required (written + oral)
  • Autonomy, analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Creativity, ability to propose ideas.
  • Intellectual curiosity.

Additional Information

The internship will take place in Belfort, France, on-site (no remote work authorized) and will be attached to the Grid Frequency Response engineering teams of the GE Vernova Gas Power subsidiary.

The internship is for one year and would take place between September 2026 and August 2027. We are also open to longer internship durations (2 or even 3 years).
