About the role

About Thales

Thales is a global leader in high technology specializing in three sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly €4 billion annually in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Success driven by our technological excellence, your experience, and our shared ambition
  • An attractive compensation package
  • Continuous skills development: training programs, academies, and internal communities
  • An inclusive, supportive environment that respects employee balance
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment

Your daily life

The Land and Air Systems activity, based at the Massy site, is a leader in air operations command and control systems and air defense radar systems.

You will work in a co-engineering context within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on agile implementation. Involved in the entire project cycle, your mission is to define how technical and functional needs will be implemented. Your responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

  • Define the software architecture to meet client requirements while respecting technical constraints (performance, reliability, resilience, cybersecurity, safety...), and considering industrial constraints (costs, deadlines, feasibility, design to cost, testability, product policy, intellectual property…)
  • Develop architecture documents and associated modeling
  • Propose and implement prototypes/solutions in co-engineering with experts to validate solutions within the framework of technical risk management for innovative solutions
  • Support implementation in Agile development teams throughout the solution lifecycle, acting as a coach to ensure the dissemination of architectural choices and contribute to the teams' maturity in software practices
  • When necessary, contribute to technical analyses of problems encountered on our systems to find appropriate solutions
  • Contribute to defining our product roadmap to manage the introduction of new technologies in the context of our clients' deployments and address solution obsolescence
  • Contribute to technical and business communities within the Thales group

Occasional travel in France and abroad is expected.

Your profile

Passionate about the challenges posed by complex, critical, and secure information systems, you want to understand the issues of air protection. In an international and technically rich environment, you bring your experience and skills in defining the software architectures of our systems. A graduate of an engineering school or equivalent BAC+5 in IT/telecom/electronics or aeronautics with a strong software culture, you have significant experience of 5 years as a software architect on complex systems with predominant software. A plus would be if this experience was acquired in air traffic control, command, or mission organization. Proficiency in engineering processes, particularly software development and architecture, with good knowledge of the following domains and technologies, is necessary:

  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (at least C++, Java; Python would be a plus), and development environments (jetBrains, Eclipse, VsCode)
  • Proficiency in different types of back-end and front-end software architectures (thick clients and thin clients)
  • Proficiency in inter-component communication solutions: WebService, API, data buses like Pub/Sub, Kafka, DDS
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux)
  • Knowledge of database management systems (Oracle, PostGres, SQLServer)
  • Knowledge of virtualization and containerization principles (Kubernetes, Docker)

A real capacity for communication and teamwork is essential, with a collaborative approach and a constant search for compromise. Likewise, the ability to work in technical English is required: technical reading, technical meetings, design reviews, email, and specification writing. (Level B2 or higher)

Are you rigorous, motivated, and dynamic?
