Job Summary

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) is responsible for driving sales growth, managing distributor and retail channels, and ensuring the achievement of sales targets within the assigned territory. The role requires strong leadership, market knowledge, and the ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve area targets and objectives.
  • Manage and monitor distributor and retail networks to ensure product availability, visibility, and coverage.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate the sales team (Sales Officers/Representatives) to deliver consistent results.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and consumer behavior to identify growth opportunities.
  • Plan and execute trade promotions, activations, and other sales initiatives to boost market share.
  • Ensure compliance with company pricing, credit policies, and trade terms.
  • Prepare and present periodic sales reports, forecasts, and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with marketing and supply chain teams to align sales execution with business objectives.
  • Monitor stock levels at distributors and ensure timely replenishment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, trade partners, and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field (MBA is an advantage).
  • 5–7 years of sales experience in FMCG, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong distributor management and retail channel experience.
  • Good understanding of market dynamics and sales operations in Nigeria.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications; knowledge of sales automation tools is an added advantage.
