Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront has been a fixture of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour neighbourhood for several decades. Under the management and ownership of Pinnacle International, the hotel features 35,000 square-feet of event space and 442 guestrooms & harbour suites. We are currently in the hunt for an Assistant Director of Engineering. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Director of Engineering is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in the planning, directing, coordinating and maintenance of all areas pertaining to the Engineering Department. The Assistant Director of Engineering is also responsible for Engineering Department in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preventative maintenance program of all building equipment, guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Actively supervise and inspect ongoing work of hotel maintenance staff.
- Identify and coach staff on opportunities to improve skills and craftsmanship
- Take active role in recruitment & selection of Engineering staff.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other equipment throughout the hotel.
- Assist in the execution of capital projects and regular property maintenance.
- Enforce safety regulations, investigate accidents, assign work duties and assist staff, as required.
- Oversee the hotel’s Health & Safety Committee.
- Lead special projects, as needed.
- Perform additional duties, as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1 – 3 years previous experience as an Assistant Director of Engineer, preferably within an upscale hotel environment.
- Must be able to exert physical effort, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
- Technical knowledge of electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, city steam heating, and all areas of engineering.
- Working knowledge of electrical, fire, and health & safety codes.
- Working knowledge of water treatment programs, blueprints and wiring schematics, power and hand tools, and other technical trade-related equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to the operation of the building.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
- Ability to lead and direct others.
- Strong conflict resolution/management and decision-making skills.
- Technologically savvy, possessing a strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office software.
- Proficiency in HotSOS and Opera an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable provincial and federal laws and legislation.
- Maintains a flexible schedule to meet the business needs of a 24/7 hotel environment.
- Possesses necessary documentation to work legally in Canada.
