The Associate Business Manager is a new position that reports to the Vice-President, Business Management.

Accountabilities and Key Functions

The Associate Business Manager is responsible for the financial and commercial performance of a portfolio of operating renewable energy assets including wind, solar and battery energy storage projects.

This role offers a rare opportunity to manage a renewable energy business end-to-end. Business Managers have direct responsibility for project-level P&L performance and oversee the full range of activities required to operate infrastructure assets successfully, including financial management, market participation, contract administration, operational oversight and stakeholder management.

In this role, you will work closely with Operations, Finance, Legal and Development teams to ensure projects operate safely, compliantly and profitably. The role also provides exposure to renewable energy markets, project finance, regulatory frameworks and long-term asset strategy.

As an Associate Business Manager, you will typically be responsible for managing 1–3 renewable energy projects or portfolios.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Portfolio Financial Performance & Project Economics

  • Prepare and manage annual operating budgets, rolling forecasts and monthly financial reporting for assigned renewable energy assets.
  • Monitor project revenues, operating costs and cash flow performance, investigate drivers of variance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Support monthly financial close processes including revenue verification, cost accruals and invoice approvals.
  • Manage project financing compliance including covenant monitoring, reserve accounts and preparation of lender reporting packages.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve project cash flow, including cost optimization, revenue enhancements and operational improvements.

Commercial Management & Energy Market Participation

  • Administer project commercial agreements including offtake contracts, environmental attribute programs and other revenue arrangements to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Prepare and issue invoices, review settlement statements and resolve discrepancies with counterparties and market operators.
  • Monitor energy market performance and merchant exposure, coordinating with schedulers and market participants to optimize project revenues.
  • Track contractual obligations and manage required notices, reporting and compliance obligations across project agreements.
  • Support amendments, renegotiations or extensions of commercial agreements and manage related documentation and approvals.

Operational Performance & Asset Oversight

  • Monitor project operating performance, availability and energy production, analyzing operational data to identify performance issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance providers to review maintenance plans, equipment performance and site conditions.
  • Track operational events including outages, curtailment and equipment failures, and coordinate responses with operations teams and contractors.
  • Identify operational issues that may result in warranty claims, contractual remedies or insurance recoveries and support claim processes as required.
  • Evaluate asset performance trends and support implementation of major maintenance, repowering or equipment replacement initiatives.

Stakeholder, Regulatory & Contract Administration

  • Prepare and deliver project reporting for lenders, investors and partners, including operating reports, budgets and compliance documentation.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with key stakeholders including lenders, partners, offtakers, landowners and community representatives.
  • Ensure projects remain compliant with regulatory requirements, environmental permits, interconnection agreements and other project obligations.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits or compliance reviews and maintain required documentation.
  • Maintain organized records of project agreements, operational documentation and stakeholder communications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, business, economics or a related field. An MBA is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in renewable energy asset management, project finance, renewable energy operations, or energy markets is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong financial analysis and budgeting capabilities.
  • Ability to manage complex contracts and stakeholder relationships.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy markets and project finance structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% - 20% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION

  • Base salary range: $75,000 – $100,000 CAD.
  • Target annual bonus: 10% target bonus.
  • Compensation will vary depending on experience and qualifications.
