Product Control Re-engineering and Automation Partner
RBC
About the role
About the Opportunity
You will be joining a unique dual-competency role at the intersection of Product Control and hands-on technical delivery, acting as the primary re-engineering and automation partner for the Macro PC function across FX, Flow Rates, Structured Rates, and Commodities.
This position offers the opportunity to drive meaningful transformation within RBC’s Product Control Infrastructure, leading process change, building automation solutions, and aligning the business to standardised frameworks in preparation for onboarding to PLANET, RBC’s centralised reporting platform.
You will combine deep Product Control expertise with strong technical capabilities to design and deliver Python and VBA-based automation solutions that stabilise the existing EUC landscape and progressively eliminate manual dependency as processes migrate to the centralised platform.
Should you be shortlisted, do please let us know if you have any specific requirements for the interview.
This is a permanent, full-time role and requires 4 days in either our 100 Bishopsgate London office or our Royal Bank Plaza Toronto office.
What will you do?
- Lead data validation and business requirements definition for Macro PC onboarding onto PLANET, RBC’s centralised reporting platform, covering FX, Flow Rates, Structured Rates, and Commodities, identifying gaps and remediation actions.
- Support testing, UAT, and data quality validation for platform onboarding and BAU release cycles, ensuring P&L, balance sheet, and reporting outputs are accurate and complete.
- Design and build Python and VBA-based automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve control across EUC processes during the platform transition.
- Lead re-engineering of Macro PC workflows to ensure compatibility with centralised platform data flows, booking conventions, and reporting hierarchies.
- Assess, catalogue, and prioritise the Macro PC EUC landscape for stabilisation or elimination, defining and executing an EUC elimination roadmap over time.
- Work closely with the SOP/BPM team to translate newly drafted standards into actionable operational change within Macro PC, identifying and closing gaps between current practice and agreed standards.
- Build trusted working relationships with Macro PC controllers and stakeholders, facilitating workshops and discovery sessions to drive collaborative process redesign.
- Share knowledge of platform capabilities with Macro PC teams and support the development of runbooks and training materials in collaboration with the BPM team.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Demonstrable experience in a Product Control, Finance Change, or Finance Transformation role within a capital markets environment.
- Strong understanding of Macro products (FX, Rates, and Commodities) and the associated P&L and balance sheet reporting lifecycle.
- Hands-on proficiency in Python, including pandas, with the ability to write end-to-end data extraction, transformation, and reconciliation scripts independently.
- Hands-on proficiency in VBA for Excel and Access automation, with the ability to assess, refactor, and document legacy EUC tools to production standard.
- Experience auditing and rationalising an EUC landscape, including cataloguing tools, assessing risk, and delivering structured remediation or elimination plans.
- Experience implementing process change in line with documented SOPs and standards, with the ability to interpret process documentation and drive adoption with the business.
Nice-to-have
- Experience in a Finance Change, PC COO, or Business Analysis role supporting a major system migration or centralised reporting platform onboarding programme.
- Familiarity with BPM frameworks sufficient to interpret and implement documented standards effectively.
- Experience defining and executing an EUC-to-platform migration roadmap in a regulated financial environment.
- Accounting qualification not essential but experience gained within a Product Control department highly desirable.
- Familiarity with SQL to interrogate source systems, validate data flows, and support upstream analysis.
- Comfortable with other transformation tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, or equivalent as the situation demands.
