The Associate Product Manager is responsible for leading scrum teams related to product initiatives, managing cross‑functional product implementation projects and supporting research and development efforts related to new growth opportunities.
This role partners closely with the Head of Product Management to assist with product strategy across the full product lifecycle, including new product launches, enhancements, pricing changes, and in‑force updates.
The role is execution‑focused, operating within an agile or hybrid delivery environment to drive disciplined, on‑time delivery across product development, product management, pricing, operations, IT, compliance, and distribution.
Responsibilities
Project Execution & Delivery Management
- Using Scrum framework, facilitate sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives within the product development and pricing teams.
- Use Agile and delivery metrics to drive execution, improve velocity, identify dependencies/bottlenecks, and improve outcomes.
- Drive execution against scope, schedule, and quality expectations while proactively managing risk.
Product Implementation
- Maintain accountability for execution of product and pricing initiatives, ensuring delivery aligns with approved scope, timelines, and success criteria.
- Manage project execution and risk for all phases of the project from concept development, kick‑off, scope and requirements gathering, final design, implementation, testing, training, and launch.
- Ensure product initiatives align with product & distribution strategy, operational capabilities, and regulatory requirements.
Research and Development
- Complete research on new product opportunities (term, final expense, and other life insurance products), partnership relationships and adjacent markets.
- Prepare holistic content, including presentations, for product strategy sessions and SLT level committee meetings.
- Present findings and actionable recommendations to the AVP of Product Management and senior members of the Actuarial and Underwriting leadership team.
Cross‑Functional Coordination
- Coordinate across Product, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations, IT, Legal/Compliance and Distribution teams.
- Identify and manage delivery risks related to product, pricing impacts, regulatory constraints, and operational readiness.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Provide clear, concise delivery reporting to actuarial and product leadership, and key stakeholders.
- Translate complex life insurance and delivery concepts into actionable insights.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or related field
- MBA preferred
Experience/Knowledge
- 3+ years of experience in project management or product implementation within life insurance
- Proven experience delivering projects in an agile or hybrid delivery environment.
- Ability to lead scrum and project teams
- High energy, positive can‑do attitude, and collaborative nature
- Critical thinking skills and attention to detail
Certifications
- PMP certification or working towards certification
- Agile certification (CSM, SAFe, PMI‑ACP, or similar) or working towards certification
- Life Office Management Association (LOMA) designation
Skills
- Proven ability to manage cross‑functional initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and results‑driven
- Experience using JIRA, Confluence, and other project management tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; both internal and client facing
What’s in it for you?
- Expected hiring compensation range: $90,800 – $124,900 annually (remote opportunity working on Eastern time zone).
- Total compensation may include sign‑on bonus, long‑term incentives, and annual bonuses.
- Eligible to participate in the Annual Incentive Plan (target payment 8% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance).
- Bonuses are pro‑rated based on start date.
- 15 vacation days and 10 sick days accrued on a bi‑weekly basis.
- 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
