Automation Project Manager

About

The Automation Project Manager is responsible for leading automation and IT-focused lifecycle management (LCM) and obsolescence (EOSL) projects across manufacturing and operational environments. This role manages end-of-service-life (EOSL) initiatives ranging from firmware updates to full control system upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to operations while maintaining compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end execution of automation lifecycle and obsolescence projects
• PLC, HMI (PanelView), SCADA, and controls system upgrades
• Project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution
• Cross-functional team coordination (Automation, IT, Engineering, Quality, Validation, Operations)
• Vendor and system integration management
• Lifecycle management strategies and cybersecurity alignment
• Drive validation (CSV) and ensure GxP compliance
• Develop project documentation (project plans, risk assessments, change controls, status reports)
• Risk identification and mitigation (obsolescence, downtime, integration)
• Support shutdown planning, system cutovers, and startup activities
• Stakeholder communication and reporting

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related technical field
• 5+ years of project management experience in automation, controls, or IT systems within pharma/life sciences manufacturing environments
• Proven experience managing automation upgrade or obsolescence (EOSL) projects
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs (PanelView), SCADA systems, and industrial automation infrastructure
• Experience with validation processes (CSV) and regulated environments is highly preferred
• Familiarity with change control, risk management, and lifecycle management practices
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus
