Back-End Developer
Kaliber Interactive
About the role
About
Kaliber Interactive is a digital agency in the center of Utrecht with a strong combination of strategy, creativity, and technology, comprising around 50 colleagues.
We are looking for a developer who works with Front-End Developers & (UX) Designers on smart solutions for digital challenges.
What you'll do
Together with your team members, you will elevate Kaliber's projects to a higher level. You will translate clients' business processes into readable, functional code. With this code, you ensure that applications work well and information flows smoothly between systems. With you on board, colleagues and clients will feel completely at ease, knowing that you will handle the complex matters.
This is the back-end team:
What our team does:
- For Rituals and Rabobank, among others, we created a service that retrieves vacancies, indexes them with ElasticSearch, and makes application questions available for the website.
- We ensure that applications/registrations are not lost through a Firebase queue and various Node services.
- We provide the services to transform and securely send orders to the order processing system.
- We arrange for employees of an organization to log in via SSO so they can visit certain pages.
- We create custom CMS components within Sanity to make content input easier and clearer. For example, selecting icons with a preview, or a tool that loads Spotify podcasts to show them to the user.
Working on the front-end
- We actively contribute to structuring React applications.
- We use our puzzle skills to help Front-End Developers with challenging problems where our sense of logic is valuable.
Working on our own tools
At Kaliber, we enjoy building our own tooling. We have high standards for our libraries and are looking for a team member who contributes to this with the same drive and enthusiasm as we do. Feel free to take a look at our open source libraries.
Requirements
- You love structuring and concretizing ideas.
- You have experience with Node.js, and are interested in Firebase Realtime Database and other, various programming techniques.
- Don't master all techniques yet? We'd still love to hear from you. We are looking for developers with a good foundation who are enthusiastic about learning and developing further.
- You get excited when you make things work functionally well.
- In your opinion, code must be readable, maintainable, and secure. You are familiar with OWASP vulnerabilities.
- You make complex language understandable for people with a less technical background.
- You prefer writing a script over manually performing repetitive tasks.
- You enjoy thinking about the future of Kaliber's services.
- Have you worked at an agency before? That's a plus!
About working at Kaliber
Do you ever walk along the Zeedijk in Utrecht? Then you might have spotted us. Right next to coffee house Dagger, directly on the Vecht river, we work with about 50 colleagues in the former sandwich factory 'de Lubro'. There, we create, conceive, tinker, experiment, sticker, dance, eat - and sometimes someone jumps into a ball pit. Or the toilet turns into a disco. What we mainly do in the Lubro is create as much work as possible that makes our clients very, very happy. And us too.
Benefits
- A salary that matches what you can and know (€2,800 - €4,400)
- A workplace in the heart of Utrecht, where besides 'computing', you can also experiment, solder, make stickers, 3D print, and more.
- Personal guidance and space for courses or training.
- Extensive lunches with fruit and salad.
- Kalibootcamps (monthly sports outing with colleagues).
- Pension accrual.
- Travel expenses reimbursement.
- Flexibly deployable holidays: on an official (Dutch) holiday or instead a different day that suits you well or better fits your religion or culture.
- An extra day off every year on May 5th because we consider celebrating freedom very important.
Cases we like to share
We prefer to work on projects we can sink our teeth into. Something innovative, challenging. Work that adds value. Occasionally, we win an award with the solutions we devise, but we don't consider that the most important thing. It's the work itself that counts. For example:
We also enjoy creating work that extends beyond the confines of your computer or phone screen:
