Backend Engineer – Retail Integrations

Role Description

We are looking for a Backend Engineer – Retail Integrations to take ownership of our integrations with third-party retailers in the United States. You will work closely with the engineering and devops team. This is a do-it-all role, and we need an individual who wants to get their hands dirty. This role is full-time remote.

What we are looking for:

• 3–5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience, with Kotlin as the primary language; strong Java experience is considered if paired with a genuine interest in adopting Kotlin.
• Solid experience with Spring Boot and production-grade application development.
• Strong command of authentication and authorization patterns (OAuth 2.0, API keys, token lifecycle management) across a range of integration architectures.
• Proficiency working with both REST and GraphQL APIs, including handling underdocumented or evolving third-party interfaces.
• Experience designing and working within microservices architectures, including asynchronous communication via Apache ActiveMQ.
• Hands-on experience with frontend reverse engineering and web scraping, including browser automation tools such as Puppeteer or Playwright.
• Experience integrating with grocery or food retailer APIs (order management, product catalogs, availability, or fulfillment) is a strong competitive advantage.
• General AWS knowledge including S3, and familiarity with core AWS services and best practices.
• General frontend knowledge and familiarity with modern frameworks (React, Vue, or similar).
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
• Ready to respond to outages and troubleshoot issues quickly when things break.
• It's a bonus if you're interested in food-as-medicine, startups, or community health.
