Origen.AI, an artificial intelligence startup focusing on the energy sector, is looking for a Backend Developer (Python) to join our team in Hoboken/Houston.

Origen.AI develops methods for modelling, simulation, and optimization of complex systems, particularly systems involving physical properties. Our revolutionary technology accelerates simulations by up to 10,000x, opening up unprecedented opportunities across many different industries.

We are based in New York (with offices in New Jersey, Hoboken, Houston, and Spain).

This specific onsite role will be located in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The person's schedule performing this role would be from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST)

Your daily routine at OriGen.AI

• You will work in the Platform team, developing the Backend for PROTEUS, our SaaS client-facing platform.
• You will build scalable services and components for a web-based complex architecture, deployed using CI in a cloud Kubernetes infrastructure.
• You will mainly use the Python programming language to write your code and your tests.
• You will support our Research team in making their cutting-edge algorithms industry-ready.
• To do so, you will have to tackle challenging problems to engineer scalable, performant, and easy-to-maintain AI solutions.

What we expect from you:

• Live in the US and be eligible to work in the US.
• 10+ years of professional experience in back-end development, with strong Python expertise and experience using frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, Django, or AIOHTTP.
• Experience building scalable back-end systems from scratch, including database design, HTTP server implementation, real-time data processing, and massive dataset management.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes-based environments, and CI/CD pipelines; Azure experience is a strong plus.
• Strong engineering practices, including TDD, code quality, maintainability, and production-ready software development.
• Ability to provide technical leadership in backend architecture, task breakdown, planning, estimation, prioritization, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience collaborating with Product Owners or acting as one when needed, translating business requirements into clear technical deliverables.
• Experience working with Oil & Gas products, reservoir simulation, or related energy-sector software solutions is a strong plus.
• Excellent communication skills in English, strong problem-solving abilities, and genuine interest in contributing to innovative AI solutions in the energy industry.
