Backend / Systems Engineer
Induct
About the role
Induct builds low-cost cloud connected access control systems for physical buildings.
We build linux-based controllers deployed in real buildings, with real, unreliable network conditions, designed to retrofit existing legacy systems, alongside a cloud platform enabling real-time networking, device coordination, authentication, and fleet management.
We're looking for a backend/systems engineer who enjoys owning difficult real-world production systems.
What you'll work on:
- Realtime networking infrastructure
- Device ↔ cloud communication systems
- Distributed coordination and reliability
- Device identity, authentication and security
- Event-driven backend infrastructure
- Observability, debugging and production tooling
- Backend APIs and platform systems
- Device update orchestration and rollout systems
- Large-scale Linux device fleet management
- Guide the architecture of the platform as it grows
What we care about
- Strong engineering judgement
- Ownership and autonomy
- Interest in systems and infrastructure
Experience with the following is useful, but not required:
- TypeScript (Node.js / NestJS)
- PostgreSQL
- Rust
- Distributed / event-driven systems
- Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
- Networking and reliability engineering
- Linux systems (server or embedded)
Role Details
This is an in-person role in Dublin City. We're a lightweight fast moving engineering team, so there's a high degree of ownership and responsibility expected. You'll have significant influence on the architecture, infrastructure, and overall technical direction of the platform.
