Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Budget & Grants Accountant serves as a key financial partner supporting project teams and leadership. This role manages accounts payable and receivable, grant compliance, budget tracking, and financial reporting, ensuring alignment with U.S. Federal Government regulations including 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance).
Key Responsibilities:
Budget Development & Oversight
- Collaborate with program staff to prepare project budgets aligned with planned activities
- Monitor expenditures against approved budgets
- Provide monthly financial reports and variance analysis to leadership
- Maintain standardized budgeting tools and templates
Federal Grants Compliance
- Ensure compliance with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) and federal procurement requirements
- Verify staff time allocations across grants and contracts
- Support internal controls and authorized cost tracking
Financial Operations & Accounting
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable and receivable
- Maintain reconciliations and general ledger accuracy in QuickBooks Online
- Review invoices, receipts, and credit card expenses for compliance and coding accuracy
- Support payroll awareness, benefits tracking, and tax compliance coordination
Audit & Policy Support:
- Assist with internal and external audit preparation
- Maintain organized digital financial records
- Support improvements to accounting policies and procurement procedures
- Help ensure the organization remains audit-ready
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of federal grants management and compliance
- Experience working with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Excel
- Familiarity with GAAP and/or IFRS standards
- Ability to translate financial procedures for non-finance staff
- Strong attention to detail and deadline management
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 3 years accounting experience supporting federal grants or contracts
- U.S. citizenship
Preferred
- QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
