The Opportunity
Are you a seasoned accounting professional who's ready to stop being a number in a big firm — and start being a name clients actually ask for?
We're working exclusively with a highly regarded, mid‑tier chartered accounting firm based in Adelaide's inner south. With a heritage spanning more than 80 years and backing from one of the world's top 20 international accounting networks, this is a firm that punches well above its weight. The team is tight‑knit, the client base is genuinely interesting, and the partners genuinely invest in the people around them.
They're now looking for an experienced Business Services Manager / Tax Manager to step into a pivotal leadership role — someone who wants to own a client portfolio, shape a team, and build something meaningful.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a broad, advisory‑focused role where no two days look the same. You'll work directly with business owners and high‑net‑worth individuals across a wide range of industries, delivering:
- Preparation and review of financial statements, tax returns, and compliance work for companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals
- Tax planning and structuring advice — including Division 7A, CGT, FBT, and business restructuring
- Advisory work including business growth strategy, exit planning, and entity structuring
- Supervision, mentoring, and development of junior accountants and graduates
- Ownership of client relationships — you'll be the trusted adviser, not just the technician
- Working closely with partners on business development and client service delivery
- Involvement in SMSF compliance where relevant
About You
You're a CA or CPA‑qualified accountant with strong technical chops and the people skills to match. You know your way around a complex tax return, but what really drives you is helping business owners actually understand their numbers — and make better decisions because of it.
You'll bring:
- Minimum 5–7 years' experience in public practice, with at least 2 years in a manager or senior accountant role
- CA or CPA qualification (essential)
- Deep technical knowledge of Australian tax legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience with business services and tax compliance across a range of entity types
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can explain a tax concept to a client without making their eyes glaze over
- A proactive, client‑first mindset and genuine desire to grow with a firm
- Experience with cloud‑based accounting platforms (Xero, MYOB, HandiSoft or similar)
Why This Role?
Because it's rare. Here's what makes this genuinely different:
- Real variety. The client base spans industries — construction, hospitality, professional services, property, not‑for‑profit, and more. You won't be processing the same return 200 times a year.
- Global backing, boutique feel. You get the resources and referral network of an international accounting group, with none of the bureaucracy of a Big 4 firm. Decisions get made quickly. People are trusted.
- A pathway. This firm promotes from within. If partnership is your long‑term goal, this is a firm where that conversation is taken seriously.
- Location. The firm is based in Eastwood — easy to get to, easy to park, not stuck in the CBD.
- Culture. The partners here have long tenures and low turnover for a reason. This is a firm where people build careers, not just jobs.
What's On Offer
- Competitive remuneration package, commensurate with experience
- Genuine flexibility and hybrid working arrangements
- A clear professional development pathway
- Access to a global network of accounting professionals
- Supportive, collaborative team environment
- Ongoing CPD support
