About the role

Job Description

The CAD / BIM Manager develops, implements, and oversees CAD and BIM standards, procedures, and technologies to meet client needs and support company-wide goals. This role provides leadership in CAD and BIM solutions, manages Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) projects and space, and drives continuous improvement in design workflows and execution strategies. The CAD / BIM Manager collaborates closely with all departments, performs project management duties on applicable projects, and guides design teams in using current and emerging software tools to maximize project efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor CAD and BIM design standards and procedures that align with company goals and client requirements.
  • Provide oversight and direction for CAD and BIM solutions, including software selection, configuration, and best practices.
  • Create Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) projects and maintain ACC space, ensuring proper setup, organization, and access control.
  • Develop and implement procedures based on BIM best practices, staying current with industry trends, tools, and workflows.
  • Propose enhancements to CAD and BIM technology, procedures, and execution strategies to improve efficiency and support company growth.
  • Actively perform project management duties for applicable projects, including planning, coordination, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
  • Manage and mentor project staff involved in CAD and BIM activities, ensuring adherence to standards and high-quality deliverables.
  • Engage with all departments to understand design needs and provide consultative guidance, suggestions, and solutions using existing and new software.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure CAD and BIM models accurately reflect project scope, technical requirements, and client expectations.
  • Support the development of technical documentation, including drawings, models, and project deliverables, using current CAD and BIM tools.
  • Address and manage relevant risk management issues related to CAD and BIM work, including contractual terms and technical feasibility considerations.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to align design standards, resolve issues, and support multidisciplinary project execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps and implementing standardized workflows and templates.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in CAD and BIM management, including developing and enforcing design standards and procedures.
  • Current working knowledge of CAD software, including relevant Autodesk products, MicroStation, Bluebeam, and other discipline-specific design software.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), including creating projects and maintaining ACC space.
  • Understanding of BIM best practices and ability to translate them into practical procedures and workflows.
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, coordination, and oversight of design and drafting activities.
  • Proven technical and business writing skills for producing clear documentation, standards, and project communications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to collaborate effectively with multiple departments and project teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant risk management issues, including contractual terms and technical feasibility related to design and engineering projects.
  • Ability to work in a results-oriented manner and contribute effectively as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 6+ years of heavy industrial experience is a plus.
  • Experience in heavy industrial engineering and design environments, such as chemical, power, manufacturing, or related sectors, is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to provide consultative guidance on software usage and design workflows to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfort working in a private, family-owned, multi-discipline engineering and design consulting environment.

Work Environment

You will work in a mid-sized, family-oriented engineering and design consulting firm with approximately 80 employees and a collaborative culture. The role is based in an in-office setting, Monday through Friday, at a location in the Midlothian, VA area near major transportation routes. You will collaborate closely with a focused structural and engineering team that includes a department manager (PE), a senior engineer (PE), two engineers (both PEs), and a senior structural designer. The environment emphasizes teamwork, open communication, and close interaction with multiple disciplines serving heavy industrial clients across industries such as chemical, power, films, fibers, plastics, paper, pharmaceuticals, metals, food and beverage, and discrete manufacturing. Standard office technology, CAD and BIM software (including Autodesk products, MicroStation, and Bluebeam), and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) are core tools used in daily work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midlothian, VA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $48.08/hr.
