We are seeking an experienced Capability Manager / Technical Product Manager with strong payments domain expertise to join a leading financial services organization in Johannesburg.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for owning and driving payment capabilities across digital platforms, ensuring alignment between business strategy, technology delivery, and customer experience. This role requires a blend of product management, technical understanding, and payments industry expertise.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering teams, architects, business stakeholders, and external payment partners to deliver scalable and secure payment solutions.

Requirements

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in Product Management, Capability Management, or Technical Product roles.
  • Strong experience in the Payments domain within banking or financial services.
  • Proven track record delivering digital payment solutions or payment platforms.

Payments Knowledge

  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Real-time payments
    • Card payments (Visa/Mastercard)
    • Payment gateways
    • Digital wallets
    • Payment APIs
    • Payment processing systems

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of payments architecture and integrations
  • Experience working with APIs, microservices, and cloud-based platforms
  • Familiarity with Agile / Scrum delivery models
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical product requirements

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within large banking or financial services environments
  • Knowledge of South African payment ecosystem (EFT, Real-Time Payments, etc.)
  • Experience with modern digital banking platforms
  • Certifications in Product Management, Agile, or Payments systems are advantageous.

Role Details

  • Location: Johannesburg, South Africa (Hybrid)
  • Contract: 12 Months (Extendable based on performance)
  • Employment Type: Contract
