Our client, a leading player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Category Manager to drive growth for their beverage portfolio. Based in George, Western Cape, ZA, this role is crucial for developing and executing category strategies that enhance market share and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of consumer trends, market dynamics, and retail environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive category strategies aligned with overall business objectives.
- Analyze market trends, consumer insights, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats.
- Manage the product lifecycle, including assortment planning, new product introductions, and product rationalization.
- Optimize product placement, promotional activities, and pricing strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
- Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, supply chain, and finance teams to ensure seamless execution of category plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and retail partners.
- Monitor category performance against key metrics (sales volume, market share, margin, ROI) and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Develop and manage the category budget effectively.
- Drive innovation within the category by identifying unmet consumer needs and proposing relevant solutions.
- Conduct regular trade visits to understand retail execution and gather market intelligence.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA is advantageous.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in category management, brand management, or a similar role within the FMCG industry.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Excellent understanding of retail dynamics, merchandising, and promotional planning.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing category growth strategies.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with sales data analysis tools is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A passion for the beverage industry and a keen eye for market trends.
