Context
As Head of the French Edition, you are responsible for the linguistic service team and, as such, you are responsible for all content produced, published, and broadcast by your team:
- You ensure compliance with Euronews' editorial line, its core values, the smooth running of the team, and the quality of all productions across all platforms, guaranteeing the highest editorial and production standards, both linguistically and journalistically, in terms of speed, accuracy, creativity, competitiveness, respect, and preservation of the Euronews brand and image.
- You manage the daily production of the French linguistic team, under the supervision of the Editorial Management, optimally using real-time audience measurement tools to maximize the editorial performance of the team's productions.
- You oversee all stages of original content production across all platforms and ensure the best possible adaptation of all content produced and distributed by the central editorial team.
- You proactively contribute, in close collaboration with all other linguistic teams, to editorial management, particularly through proposals for content, guest bookings, and developments.
- You manage all operational aspects of the French linguistic team (planning, collaboration with marketing, HR, finance, sales, legal departments), implement and ensure compliance with internal procedures and allocated budgets.
- You are responsible for the application, within the team, of all strategic, managerial, and operational decisions of the company, as well as daily editorial decisions related to content production, in compliance with all the media's legal obligations (copyright, legal aspects, etc.).
- You represent the channel externally and promote it in the relevant geographical area.
As Head of the French Linguistic Edition, you will report to the Head of Europe within the Editorial Management, whose function is based in Brussels.
Main Missions
Journalistic Coordination of the Linguistic Edition and Participation in Euronews' Global Production
- You guide the overall journalistic production of the linguistic team across all platforms, within the framework of Euronews' global production process, for both original content and adaptations, enforcing compliance with the editorial lines and journalistic principles of the newsroom.
- You are responsible for the planning and production of original content validated by the editorial management, both in the field and in post-production, as well as the adaptation of content produced by the central editorial team.
- You contribute to Euronews' information gathering efforts, short- and long-term editorial and production planning, and their daily execution, participate in daily, weekly, and ad-hoc editorial meetings organized by the central editorial team, as well as any meetings involving the linguistic team's participation in Euronews' international production.
- You proactively propose ideas, guests, and content developments.
- You take charge of covering breaking news in the team's geographical area and area of expertise.
- You are responsible for the legal compliance of all content published and broadcast by the linguistic team.
- You manage your team's schedule (permanent, non-permanent staff) and replacements for all types of leave in accordance with general policy.
Content Quality Control of Linguistic Content
- You coordinate and supervise the entire team to ensure compliance with Euronews' core values and the consistent coherence of productions across all platforms, both linguistically and journalistically.
- You provide editorial support to journalists on linguistic matters in daily operations.
Management
- You regularly organize team meetings to present, discuss, and gather feedback on editorial and administrative needs.
- You communicate all relevant information concerning the team to the editorial and administrative management.
- You ensure a complete understanding of the skills, training, and career paths of team members.
- You conduct annual performance reviews and professional interviews for your team in accordance with management directives.
- You collaborate with Human Resources to ensure optimal coverage of staffing needs.
- You maintain a permanent pool of permanent and freelance journalists to meet daily production needs.
- You welcome and integrate new recruits, ensuring their training and integration into workflows.
- You report training needs of the team to management.
- You are responsible for the smooth functioning of the team, all developments, promotions, or disciplinary actions concerning it.
- You monitor and manage audience feedback, both locally and internationally, and inform the team and management.
- You promote operational efficiency and establish a climate of respect and trust within the team.
- You lead by example, embodying fairness, respect, and motivation towards journalists and other departments of the company.
Representation of the Linguistic Team
- Under the supervision of the General Editorial Management, you represent Euronews and the team in its relations with national media, institutions, and authorities.
- You develop and maintain lasting relationships with media partners in the linguistic zone (other media, production companies, etc.).
- You provide advice and proposals on developing Euronews' presence and audience in France.
Your Profile
Experience and Technical Skills
- Required education level: Bachelor's degree +4/5 – degree in journalism or equivalent.
- Language skills: Excellent command and professional practice of French expected for this type of role.
- Bilingual English (C2).
- Proficiency in another language is an asset.
- Proven professional experience in a similar role in a renowned news media outlet.
- Solid general knowledge allowing for the treatment of a wide variety of subjects.
- Excellent knowledge of European and French affairs.
- In-depth understanding of European and French political and economic dynamics.
- Mastery of writing and journalistic techniques.
- Very good digital culture and ease in using technology and the web.
