About

This is a Chief Broadcast Engineering Role for the Athletics broadcast operations. This person is responsible for every technical aspect of how the University Athletics games and events are produced, transmitted, and delivered to fans in venue and on television/streaming platforms.

Responsibilities

Technical Operations & Live Support (45%)

This is the core of the job for keeping everything running on game day and beyond:

  • Daily oversight of all control rooms and remote broadcast locations
  • Tier-One troubleshooting during live events (real-time problem solving)
  • Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate technical staff
  • Serve as technical liaison for broadcast partners (SEC Network, ESPN, etc.)
  • Coordinate multiple simultaneous broadcasts across sports
  • Lead engineering for instant replay systems per Athletics and SEC standards
  • Ensure camera, audio, intercom, replay, graphics, and transmission chains meet network specs

Planning, Documentation & Capital Projects (35%)

This is the strategic/administrative side of the role:

  • Develop and maintain 5–10-year strategic plans for control rooms and venues
  • Partner with Facilities, IT, and Capital Planning on major infrastructure projects
  • Establish preventive maintenance and emergency repair protocols
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation (signal-flow diagrams, patch lists, device configs)
  • Manage an equipment inventory database including service/repair history

Equipment & Vendor Management (20%)

  • Coordinate purchasing of broadcast equipment
  • Manage engineering contractors, vendors, and service agreements
  • Track costs, warranties, and service coverage
  • Oversee broadcast IT security (network segmentation, backups, incident response) in coordination with central IT
  • Manage safe transport and chain-of-custody of equipment between venues
  • Coordinate with visiting broadcast trucks

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field OR equivalent experience
  • 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field

Preferred:

  • 5–7 years working in broadcast control rooms with production staff
  • Hands-on experience with:

    • IP-Based Intercom Systems
    • Audio & Video Routers
    • Fiber Optic Transmission
    • Cable Termination
    • TV Control Room Maintenance & Engineering
