Job Description

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of everything that needs to be done. At NH Maldives Kuda Rah, leaders are expected to take full ownership of their area, anticipate operational needs, and proactively support the business, our guests, and our colleagues. Within this, the key responsibilities for this position are:

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and oversee the full Engineering operation of the resort, ensuring all facilities, plant, equipment, systems, and infrastructure are maintained in safe and excellent working condition at all times.
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of all engineering functions across the resort, including guest villas, public areas, heart of house, team member facilities, kitchens, laundry, water systems, sewage systems, power generation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a strong preventive maintenance program to protect the resort asset, reduce downtime, and ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Plan, organize, and control all repair and maintenance works in a timely, cost-effective, and professional manner.
  • Lead and supervise the engineering team, ensuring proper manpower planning, duty allocation, technical guidance, coaching, training, performance management, and continuous development of team members.
  • Take responsibility for the wellbeing, support, and day-to-day guidance of team members within the department, creating a positive, respectful, and productive working environment.
  • Ensure team members are properly supported with the tools, equipment, resources, training, and leadership needed for them to perform their roles effectively and safely.
  • Build a team culture that values care, teamwork, discipline, accountability, open communication, and mutual respect.
  • Support team members in resolving operational challenges, provide direction where needed, and encourage their professional growth and confidence.
  • Ensure all engineering systems operate efficiently and in compliance with company standards, safety requirements, local regulations, and Maldives resort operational needs.
  • Take overall responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and performance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, fire life safety, generators, pumps, and utility systems.
  • Monitor the condition of all plant and equipment and take proactive action to prevent breakdowns and service disruptions.
  • Oversee the proper maintenance of air conditioning systems, chillers, refrigeration units, cold rooms, freezers, ventilation systems, and other critical cooling equipment across the resort.
  • Ensure all engineering logs, maintenance records, equipment history cards, service schedules, and statutory documents are properly maintained and updated.
  • Prepare and manage the Engineering department budget, including repair and maintenance cost control, CAPEX planning, energy usage, and spare parts forecasting.
  • Control stock and inventory of engineering tools, materials, and spare parts, ensuring appropriate quantities are maintained based on usage patterns and operational needs.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety, guest comfort, product quality, team member wellbeing, or operational efficiency.
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and safeguarding of all engineering tools, equipment, and resort assets.
  • Lead energy conservation and sustainability initiatives, including monitoring electricity, fuel, water, and other utility consumption, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure the resort remains compliant with all health, safety, fire, environmental, and statutory requirements, and support inspections, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers, ensuring all work is completed to the required standard, within scope, and in line with resort policies.
  • Support renovation works, projects, upgrades, and new installations, ensuring minimal disruption to resort operations and guest experience.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all engineering emergencies and critical maintenance issues, providing leadership and solutions during urgent situations.
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure engineering support is provided efficiently and that operational needs are met at all times.
  • Conduct routine inspections of all areas of the resort, including team member facilities, and provide recommendations for improvement, repair, replacement, or upgrade of assets and systems.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, care, and preventive maintenance within the department.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the General Manager or senior management in line with the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of engineering experience within the hospitality industry, with at least 3 to 4 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Previous resort experience is essential, preferably within a Maldives resort or remote island operation.
  • Strong experience in managing the maintenance and operation of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, power generation, water treatment, sewage treatment, and fire life safety systems.
  • Proven experience in leading preventive maintenance programs, technical teams, contractor supervision, and project coordination.
  • Good understanding of engineering budgeting, cost control, CAPEX planning, and spare parts management.
  • Experience in handling statutory compliance, safety standards, and engineering audits.
  • Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant technical certifications, licenses, or trade qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of resort infrastructure systems and operational requirements in a luxury or upscale hospitality environment.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices, energy-saving initiatives, and utilities management is preferred.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems is preferred.
