Civil Engineer - Port Harcourt

Job Summary

• The Civil Engineer will be responsible for planning, supervising, and executing construction and screeding works across various project sites.
• The role requires strong technical knowledge in site preparation, floor screeding, finishing, structural works, project coordination, and quality control.
• The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in construction site management, material estimation, and supervising artisans and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specification.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily construction activities on site, including screeding, block work, plastering, flooring, concrete works, and finishing.
• Oversee floor screeding works to ensure smooth, level, durable, and high-quality finishes.
• Prepare and interpret construction drawings, site layouts, and project specifications.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor progress to ensure compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.
• Coordinate artisans, subcontractors, suppliers, and labourers on site.
• Prepare material schedules, cost estimates, bills of quantities, and work plans.
• Ensure proper use of construction materials to minimize waste and control costs.
• Monitor the quality of materials used for screeding, concrete, flooring, and other structural works.
• Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during project execution.
• Ensure that projects are completed within agreed timelines and budgets.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly site progress reports.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, architects, and project managers regarding project updates and technical matters.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards on site.
• Conduct measurements and calculations for floor levels, gradients, and structural dimensions.
• Inspect completed works and ensure defects are corrected before handover.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction and screeding works.
• Strong knowledge of floor screeding techniques, concrete works, and construction finishing.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and site plans.
• Good understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering software such as AutoCAD.
• Strong project management and site supervision skills.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Membership in relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.
