About Us

We develop military simulation environments for studies and research projects, which are used for analyses and AI training. Using Machine Learning/Deep Learning approaches, we develop AI methods for autonomous planning and decision-making under uncertain conditions and in complex operational, military situations.

We implement and test state-of-the-art Deep Reinforcement Learning approaches for use in the military environment, with which our AI applications can be optimized safely, data-efficiently, and reliably. We publish the groundbreaking results at international conferences (e.g., Using DeepMind's AlphaStar techniques to support military decision-makers).

As a Cloud Platform Engineer (d/f/m), you are responsible for the setup, automation, and stable operation of cloud-based development, testing, and production environments – especially in the context of AI applications. You will significantly shape the cloud infrastructure and ensure scalable, secure, and highly available platforms using modern DevOps and GitOps principles. Your work directly contributes to efficient and high-quality software delivery.

You will work in our young and agile studies department on interesting study and research projects for the German Armed Forces, NATO, and the European Union in the field of security and defense.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities:

Operation & Management of Kubernetes Clusters

• Setup, maintenance, and scaling of Kubernetes clusters, e.g., with Ubuntu and Microk8s.
• Ensuring high availability, monitoring, patch management, and cluster stability.

CI/CD & GitOps Pipelines

• Design, implementation, and optimization of automated CI/CD pipelines (e.g., with GitLab) within a GitOps strategy.
• Definition and maintenance of deploy manifests for applications and infrastructure in Git repositories.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Automation of environment configuration using Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and other IaC tools.

Monitoring, Logging & Observability

• Setup and operation of a comprehensive monitoring and logging system based on Prometheus, Grafana, and other tools for proactive system monitoring and performance optimization.

Security & Compliance (DevSecOps)

• Integration of security and compliance checks into the CI/CD pipeline ("Security-by-Design").
• Introduction and operation of Zero Trust architectures, Secret Management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault, Sealed Secrets), and Identity and Access Management (IAM) with Keycloak or LDAP/OIDC.

Test Strategy & Automation

• Development and implementation of a holistic test strategy including automated test frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

Container & Cloud-Native Technologies

• Experienced handling of Docker, Linux containers, and cloud technologies.
• Application of Helm and MLOps principles to support AI applications in Kubernetes.

Microservices & Cloud Architectures

• Understanding of modern architectures such as microservices and cloud-native applications.

Collaboration & Teamwork

• Close collaboration with development, security, and product teams – nationally and internationally.
• Willingness for cross-site collaboration, possibly with travel for installations of air-gapped solutions at the customer's site.

Additionally, the following tasks and responsibilities can be assumed – upon fulfillment of the qualifications (see below):

• Coordination in simulation-based study and research projects
• Responsibility for the implementation of work packages in terms of time, cost, and quality
• Independent technical exchange with other departments and project partners (industry, scientific institutes)
• Offer preparation for work packages (scope, time, cost)

Required Qualifications:

• Successfully completed studies (Diplom/Master) in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Simulation
• Good knowledge in:
  • Kubernetes (Cluster Management, Helm, RBAC, Operator Models)
  • Containerization
  • CI/CD and GitOps Tools (e.g., GitLab or Jenkins)
  • Monitoring & Logging (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, etc.)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm)
• First practical experience in:
  • Secret Management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault, External Secrets)
  • IAM Solutions (Keycloak, LDAP, OIDC)
  • Security Integration in CI/CD Pipelines
  • Agile Methods (Scrum, Kanban)
• Good programming skills, especially in Python
• Confident handling of Linux systems and shell scripting
• Profound understanding of cloud platforms, microservices, and MLOps
• Fluent German and English skills, both written and spoken
• Team-oriented, communicative, solution- and quality-oriented – with a passion for innovative technologies and continuous improvement. You enjoy sharing knowledge and continuously acquiring new knowledge.
