About the role
Overview
We are seeking a Collibra Data Catalog Engineer to support a growing data governance initiative within DISA’s Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO). This role will focus on the hands-on configuration, operation, and expansion of the Collibra data catalog platform, enabling enterprise-wide metadata ingestion, data discoverability, and governance capabilities.
This is a high-impact, growth-oriented effort, supporting the stand-up of an enterprise data catalog that will serve as a foundation for analytics, reporting, and AI-driven data utilization across DISA.
The ideal candidate will bring strong frontend/platform experience within Collibra, along with the ability to operate independently while supporting a junior team.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain Collibra Data Governance Center (DGC), including:
- Business glossary
- Data dictionary
- Metadata ingestion and catalog management
- Support Collibra frontend operations, including:
- Asset onboarding and catalog structuring
- User roles, permissions (RBAC), and security configuration
- Develop and enhance Collibra workflows (BPMN) to support:
- Data stewardship processes
- Metadata lifecycle management
- Change request workflows
- Support ingestion of metadata from multiple DISA data sources (e.g., databases, data lakes, AWS environments)
- Collaborate with engineering teams (Databricks, Advana ecosystem, AWS) to ensure seamless data integration into the platform
- Enable data discovery and usability to support reporting and AI-driven analytics use cases
- Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to a junior, growing team (~5 personnel)
- Promote adoption of the data catalog through training, documentation, and stakeholder engagement
Basic Qualifications
- 4–7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data cataloging
- Hands-on experience with Collibra, including:
- Data catalog configuration and administration
- Metadata management, lineage, and data stewardship
- Workflow creation and customization
- Experience supporting metadata ingestion and classification across enterprise systems
- Working knowledge of data environments (AWS, Databricks, or similar)
- Strong foundation in data analysis and SQL for validation and profiling
- Active DoD Secret clearance and Security+ certification
- Ability to work onsite at Ft. Meade, MD (4–5 days/week)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting DISA, DoD, or federal data environments
- Familiarity with Advana or enterprise data platforms within DoD
- Experience in AWS IL5/IL6 environments
- Collibra certification (Level 1 or 2 preferred)
- Experience enabling user adoption of data catalogs (training, workshops, stakeholder engagement)
- Ability to collaborate across technical and business teams to support a data-driven culture
