Design Manager

We are partnering with a growing modular construction company seeking a hands-on Design Manager to lead design and drafting efforts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys staying close to the technical work while also guiding a small team. The position will play a key role in delivering high-quality, efficient building designs across modular and commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute directly to drafting and design efforts for modular and/or commercial building projects
• Oversee design development from concept through production drawings
• Collaborate cross-functionally with construction, project management, and manufacturing teams
• Review and approve drawings, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and constructability
• Mentor and support junior designers/drafters
• Improve design workflows and help implement best practices and standards
• Assist with problem-solving during design and build phases

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of total experience in engineering, drafting, or building design
• 1–2+ years in a leadership, supervisory, or lead capacity
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one: Revit, AutoCAD, or SketchUp
• Background in modular construction, commercial buildings, or construction design preferred
• Solid understanding of building systems, construction methods, and design principles
• Ability to balance technical execution with team leadership responsibilities

• Experience working in a fast-paced or production-driven environment
• Knowledge of building codes and permitting processes
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
