Position Summary

The Construction Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliant payroll processing for construction projects, including prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements. This position supports accounting operations, payroll administration, and compliance functions while working closely with project management, field operations, and external accounting partners.

This role requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, and adherence to internal controls and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger accounting in QuickBooks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and routine financial reports
  • Process construction payroll, including prevailing wage and wage‑scale projects, in accordance with federal, state, and local labor regulations
  • Prepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports for public works and government‑funded projects
  • Administer accounts payable, including vendor and subcontractor invoice review, entry, and documentation
  • Coordinate payroll data, job cost information, and project documentation with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel
  • Maintain organized, audit‑ready records including W‑9s, certificates of insurance (COIs), payroll documentation, and compliance files
  • Assist with month‑end close activities and provide support to external CPA or accounting service providers
  • Comply with all company policies, accounting controls, and confidentiality requirements
  • Track expenses, budget, taxes, cash flow, receipts and other financial dealings of company
  • Provide regular financial reports (weekly, monthly and yearly)
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable
  • Ensure timely processing of payroll

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop
  • Proven experience processing construction payroll and certified payroll reporting
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable processes
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with office and field‑based personnel
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and QuickBooks
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with prevailing wage compliance or public works projects
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Position is office‑based with standard office equipment
  • May require extended periods of sitting and computer use
  • Regular interaction with project and field staff

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $55,000 – $70,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
