Construction Project Manager – Paving

Position Summary

Thomas Construction is seeking a Construction Project Manager – Paving responsible for managing asphalt paving and roadway surfacing projects from pre‑construction through closeout. The Project Manager oversees budgets, schedules, subcontractors, client coordination, and project documentation while ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Base Salary: $115,000 – $125,000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage paving projects from pre‑construction through closeout
• Develop and oversee project budgets, schedules, and forecasts
• Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, and field crews to ensure successful execution
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and trucking logistics
• Ensure compliance with DOT specifications, contracts, and safety standards
• Track production, costs, and profitability across projects
• Lead project meetings and maintain strong client relationships
• Identify risks, resolve issues, and drive projects to completion on time and within budget
• Prepare and manage documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in asphalt paving or roadway construction
• Strong understanding of paving operations, production, and cost controls
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, and multiple projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of DOT contracts and specifications
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Proficiency in construction management software is a plus

Project Executive or Director of Construction (may vary by project).

Direct Reports

Field crews, subcontractors, and/or trade leads depending on project assignment.

Work Environment

• Primarily on active construction sites; may require work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise levels, and construction equipment typical of infrastructure and building projects

Physical Demands

• Standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 pounds
• Extended periods on construction sites and navigating uneven terrain

Travel Requirements

Local and regional travel to project sites may be required depending on project assignment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base Salary Range: $115,000 – $125,000 annually
• Annual Bonus: Target 10% performance‑based bonus
