Dematic Corp is seeking a skilled Controls Engineering Team Leader to guide a dynamic group of project execution engineers within our Project Engineering Organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with over 5 years of experience in leading engineering teams on projects of various sizes and complexities in the material handling and logistics automation industry. Proven success in team leadership is essential, coupled with a strong background in material handling systems and logistics automation.

As the Controls Engineering Team Leader, you will actively manage day-to-day project execution, enhance team capabilities, and collaborate with various engineering disciplines and departments to align project objectives. You will also play a role in driving strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

Tactical Execution Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project performance and deliverables for your engineering team.
  • Provide coaching and support to ensure the success of team members and project outcomes.
  • Ensure project targets for quality, timely delivery, and budget are met. Identify issues proactively.
  • Regularly report project performance and status updates to management and peers.
  • Maintain accurate monthly forecasting on assigned projects.
  • Manage project and departmental budgets efficiently.
  • Participate in project turnovers, assessing risks before team deployment.
  • Make informed project staffing decisions based on skills and priorities.
  • Ensure effective utilization of team members and manage workload balance.
  • Engage in pre-sale technical reviews with Sales and Solution Development teams.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate project risks and understand customer expectations.
  • Analyze decisions impact on business operations and suggest process improvements.

Team Growth and Development Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, onboard, and integrate new hires into the Project Engineering Organization.
  • Foster continuous talent development through annual reviews and goal-setting processes.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to enhance team member skills.
  • Cultivate a culture of integrity, communication, and collaboration.
  • Set clear expectations and develop team members into role-models within the organization.
  • Uphold a Safety-First culture and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Engage in regular communication through meetings and feedback sessions.

Strategic Implementation and Continuous Improvement Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships across offices and departments.
  • Enhance team visibility and engagement within Dematic and with Customers.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms between project execution and Solution Development teams for competitive enhancement.
  • Champion Continuous Improvement and Lean initiatives within Project Engineering.
  • Align team and individual goals with the strategic objectives of the Engineering Department.
  • Propose changes and improvements when necessary.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Engineering Management and/or people leadership.
  • At least 8 years of experience in material handling and/or logistics automation.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams in various environments.
  • Familiarity with CAD design software such as AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, including Allen-Bradley or Rockwell, is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a capacity to recommend budget-friendly solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills for customer interactions.
  • Outstanding leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining composure.
  • Willingness to travel 15-25% to customer or Dematic locations.
  • Commitment to positively represent the engineering organization and Dematic to all customers.
