About the Role

Reporting to the VP, Operational Sustainability, you will provide corporate-level leadership, governance, and technical direction for rock engineering, ground control, and geotechnical disciplines across Agnico Eagle operations and projects.

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining geotechnical standards, supporting studies and operations, identifying, and managing geotechnical risks and opportunities across life-of-mine horizons, and strengthening integration between corporate technical services and site-based teams.

You will play a critical role in ensuring safe, sustainable, and value-driven mine designs and operations by balancing strategic oversight with practical operational engagement, while fostering technical excellence, professional development, and collaboration across regions and disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the corporate discipline lead for Rock Engineering and Ground Control, defining, implementing, and governing geotechnical standards, guidelines, and frameworks.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality geotechnical models, design methods, and ground control practices across studies and operations.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction through study stage gates, internal reviews, and external technical review committees.
  • Identify, assess, and clearly communicate geotechnical risks and value opportunities impacting short, medium, and long-term mine plans.
  • Provide geotechnical oversight for critical infrastructure, including interfaces with tailings, water management, heap leach, and waste rock facilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in ground control through operational learning, innovation, and technology adoption.
  • Engage regularly with site-based teams to support operational challenges, studies delivery, and life-of-mine planning.
  • Oversee numerical modelling, rock mechanics, hydrogeology, and integrated geotechnical inputs within Technical Services.
  • Promote alignment and collaboration across operations, technical services, geology, and exploration.
  • Build organizational capability by supporting professional development, mentoring, succession planning, and knowledge transfer.
  • Foster a strong, connected Rock Engineering and Ground Control community across regions and functions.
  • Monitor team capacity, workload, and organizational health, identifying capability gaps and resourcing needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Rock Mechanics, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related geotechnical discipline.
  • 15 years of senior-level experience in rock engineering, ground control, and geotechnical engineering across underground and/or open pit mining environments.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic technical leadership at a corporate or multi-site level.
  • A motivated self-starter with good analytical, problem-solving, planning and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence and relate well to various audiences at all organizational levels.
  • Agility with financial concepts and calculations such as required by various operations and studies levels evaluations.
  • Ability to leverage off Technical Corporate Team expertise.
  • Committed to the highest safety and environmental standards and the application of relevant legislation, codes and company standards.
  • Consensus builder and team worker with leadership qualities.

Work Schedule

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from an Agnico Eagle office. Occasional visits to site may also be required.
