Job Description

We are seeking a Cost Accountant who can provide subject matter expertise in federal financial management and Air Force accounting processes in support of a mission-critical financial system. This position serves as the functional bridge between end users, business stakeholders, and technical teams by supporting financial operations analysis, requirements development, and validation of system results. The ideal candidate combines strong cost accounting and government financial management experience with the ability to translate operational needs into system requirements and validate system functionality. This position will work closely with developers and analysts in a highly regulated government environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide SME support in generating requirements and validate testing results for a financial management system.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, developers, and project managers to clarify requirements and ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Provide operational and business process support for an enterprise Air Force financial management system
  • Support data validation, reconciliation, and financial reporting accuracy checks
  • Assist with training materials, user guides, and stakeholder communications as needed
  • Manage labor ingestion processes, coordinate with Civilian Pay Liaison, and correct variances.
  • Process contractor load files and generate billing artifacts.
  • Produce and route bills to DFAS.
  • Maintain strict controls over proprietary billing/cost data and ensure monthly billing milestones are met
  • Assist with the resolution of JOCAS II/CFIS trouble calls within prescribed timelines
  • Support user training as needed

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years in financial systems or business systems operations, with an understanding of general accounting principles.
  • 3–5 years with JOCAS II, GAFS, and DEAMS financial system.
  • Strong knowledge of government accounting principles and federal financial processes.
  • Ability to translate accounting/business needs into actionable technical requirements.
  • Strong data reconciliation, variance analysis, and script execution for financial processing.
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.
  • Experience supporting formal testing activities.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Unix environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and reconciliation analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with both technical resources and end-users.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated, mission-focused government environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DFAS billing processes and Air Force/Space Force comptroller operations.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Clearance and Access Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance required at time of hire and must be maintained for the life of the contract.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be eligible for and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

Work Location and Schedule

  • Work will be performed 100% onsite at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
  • Standard support hours align with Government operating hours; however, occasional after-hours, weekend, month-end, year-end, or contingency support may be required to maintain system availability and support mission requirements.
