About the Role
As a Field Cost Engineer, you will report to the Project Manager and/or Senior Project Engineer on a prominent transportation project in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Your role involves performing routine and non-routine cost/estimating assignments that require the application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of construction projects. You will be responsible for ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of project reports.
Responsibilities
- Perform budget analysis and cost estimating for construction projects.
- Coordinate with the operations team on design-bid-build projects to support the development of cost and schedule proposals.
- Finalize cost proposals for submission to the client.
- Assist with change order management.
- Review and develop scope of work packages for change order pricing.
- Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations and prepare change order document packages.
- Evaluate and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Essential Skills
- 3-5 years of experience in heavy civil construction or similar construction cost/estimating experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Working knowledge of resource monitoring and control techniques, such as cost accounting and budget analysis.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality, with knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in fixed price, design-build, or self-perform estimating is a plus.
- Experience with government projects is a plus.
- Familiarity with sitework, concrete, utilities, systems, or rail is advantageous.
- Strong work ethic and motivation to deliver high-quality work.
- Attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Candidates local to Los Angeles, California preferred.
Work Environment
The position is based in an onsite office with a team-oriented culture. The team size is approximately five members. The dress code is business casual, and the work hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
